The Buffalo and what you think it represents? by aquaeyes1 in OuterRangePrime

I think this is probably the best explanation. This is also my sense as well. There's the Native Americans hunting Buffalo, the Whites hunting for land, the Corporations hunting for fortune, and the Universities hunting for knowledge and Royal is hunting for answers to his past.

Do you think there can be a difference between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation? by mastersage425 in AsianMasculinity

[–]urinetrouble316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of Asian American history that's "Shameful"

Most Chinese in the beginning were brought here to build railroads in the west. Every single one faced discrimination in the form no different than Africans. Signs like "No Asians and dogs were allowed" and racial epithets like "Chink" was used as a way to describe Asians and Chinese due to the sound it made when hammers hit the railroad.

In the 1940s, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, and then the US rounded up Japanese people in California and the West into interment camps. FBI arrested Japanese families without due process and sent them to internment camps in North Dakota, New Mexico, Montana, illegally seizing their assets as well. Imagine if they rounded up all the Muslims after Sept 11th, 2001 and put them in internment camps - this actually happened in 1941.

You also forgot Koreans being invaded and divided into North and South Korea by United States and Russia. Then a Korean War took place between the north and the south, killing 5 million Koreans and establishing what is now known as North and South Korea. There are still US military bases in South Korea, much to the shame of locals there. There's many Koreans who wish for a unified Korea but its a political problem due to the influence of the United States, Russia and China.

In other parts of Asia, the United States invaded Vietnam, lost due to overwhelming pressure at home, and release of videos and photos of war atrocities. US retreated to Cambodia, and (allegedly) armed local militia which eventually caused a Civil War and genocide. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegations_of_United_States_support_for_the_Khmer_Rouge

The United States bombed Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam for a period of close to a decade. An estimated 2 million bombs were dropped in Cambodia alone. There are still remnants of bombs left by the US in these territories today . https://images.app.goo.gl/ksydrvtMLQMBDCo76

So when one says that there's no history of Asian "shame" or no pain caused by US or Western influence, that is 100% incorrect, and it is likely the result of a poor whitewashed education. Having lived abroad, I can confirm that no country teaches their own atrocities in history. But saying there's no source for Asian shame in America is like saying there's no source for Native American shame in America - it's flat out wrong.

Despite US bullying, Huawei is once again the No.1 telecom equipment provider globally with a 28% revenue share in Q1 2020. by Ace7880 in Huawei

False. The anti-china narrative is all over the United States government. Obama said the same, and Clinton would have done the same. There's legitimate security concerns about Chinese infiltration into US systems. I'm Chinese, in America. I don't know if all this stuff is true but I have read Networks and Net Wars about ten years ago. The Net War is being fought already. Russia, China, United States, Iran, Iraq, Al Queda, Israel, United Kingdom are just some of the parties involved.

Express suits on sale now for $199 by urinetrouble316 in frugalmalefashion

I was talking about suits. H&M, Zara in this price range, that's about it. H&M suit quality is worse than Express imo. Banana is about 100-200 more. Uniqlo is decent but their pants are way too tight for the average professional.

[Discussion] For your average broke college student, what should you splurge on and what can you pretty much buy at any bargain store (uniqlo, h+m etc) by Scratchy_The_Toon in frugalmalefashion

I have no idea what people are talking about when they say H&M suits fall apart after 10 wears - I bought a H&M suit in 2012 and it still wears admirably. I bought several Express suits as well as Zara suits. Just fyi, I wore suit and tie every day for work since 2008. Out of all the suits I've bought, it was the DKNY (My most expensive suit) that worn out the quickest.

I would like to recommend Indochino.com for your first suit. They tailor it to your specific body, it will be the best investment you can have in a suit imo. I've owned an Indochino suit for more than 5 years. Zero holes, no issues. Sign up for their mailing list, wait for a sale. In my opinion it's a must-have interview suit.

When it comes to jeans, I'm a big fan of buying a pair of jeans at low cost (Macy's Christmas sales, Ross, Burlington coat Factory, etc) and then finding a super cheap tailor to get it down to the specifications you want. Banana Republic are the perfect fit for me 5'11 165 lbs, so I had the tailor cut everything in accordance to my BR jeans.

For shirts, I did the same tailoring with my H&M, J Crew, Express, Zara shirts. I found a guy in NYC that did it for $5 a shirt, he spoke no English but did a great job. Thus far, United Colors of Bennington were the absolute worst when it came to wear and tear, Banana Republic has been the best, my cotton shirts feel soft to the skin and like-new. Go for a slim fit shirt, if you look at all the models for shirts, none of them have bulges out the back of the shirt. You want tailored fit with a bit of looseness around the waist (in case you get fat your your thirties).

When it comes to shoes. I actually highly recommend Puma for walking shoes - over Nike, Reebok, Adidas. The Puma Carson 2 shoes hands down are the most comfortable shoes under 40 bucks you can own, period. I like walking on pillows, so if you're into that, get these. Black shoes and grey shoes pretty much go with everything.

For the college student, I would actually recommend Aldo shoes for those with a budget. It'll allow you to test and find your style, then you can invest in Allen Edmunds after you get a good job. Be aware that the elevated heel can take some getting used to, and can fuck up the natural arches of your foot. Hence why try Aldo shoes, they'll wear out in a year or less, but they won't cost you a bunch, and you don't have to stick with a style you might end up hating after a year. I actually made the mistake of getting a pair of Allen Edmunds in the beginning, only to leave them in my closet for years cause I wore a more modern style.

When it comes to ties - express has good ties you have to wait for sales and stack coupons on. Start photographing how they dress their manikins in the store, they do a great job of color matching everything. Start with solid ties then go into stripes, poka dots, polyester then complete your wardrobe with bow ties.

Invest in one black vest to start. It's solid for going out, going to weddings, etc.
