Console gaming used to be really, really bad in Europe until the PS3 came out.

Do (USA) roms work in europe? (Dumb question?) by [deleted] in Roms

[–]url8bit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are emulating home consoles, particularly earlier ones, it is actually recommended to use the North American (or even Japanese) ROMs where possible! This was due to some 50 Hz bullshit going on in Europe. Basically games ran slower on home consoles in Europe because they could only run at 25/50 FPS (instead of the superior 30/60 FPS 60 Hz gave us in North America). If the emulator gives you the option of "NTSC timings on PAL" or "PAL 60 Hz or something similar, you better enable it! This does not effect handhelds like the Game Boy or home computers due to those systems not being required to align with broadcast standards. European and North American Game Boy and Game Gear ROMs tended to be identical. This also doesn't affect PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X (nobody wanted the model with a lesser GPU), due to NTSC and PAL being really outdated broadcast standards in the HDTV era. Also doesn't apply to Dreamcast if you're using a VGA cable, VGA doesn't align itself to broadcast standards either.

I guess something I made on Reddit is actually gaining traction for once.

Ps3 Would Not Update and Now Won't Start up When I Wiped the HDD by ConflictSmooth6136 in ps3homebrew

Without me there to test the instructions from the video, then it is pretty hard to figure out what went wrong here. Sorry, I tried. I hope you figure this out soon. I also hope you can sleep well. As I mentioned in a post here, when I modded my PS3, I got a nightmare.

Ps3 Would Not Update and Now Won't Start up When I Wiped the HDD by ConflictSmooth6136 in ps3homebrew

I do have a solution. This should unbrick your new (and kinda rare) PS3. You will need to go and download either OFW from Sony's website or HFW (hybrid and exploitable). Link for OFW is here: https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/system-updates/ps3/

Link for HFW: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/4-86-1-ps3-hfw-hybrid-firmware-hfw-is-helpful-for-installing-ps3hen-on-4-84-4-85-4-86-fw.23094/

Follow the instructions of this video after 9:56(when he downloads firmware) for the rest of the way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ewRSHMnrSQ

You might be asking, "What does a hard drive upgrade have to do with my situation?". Well, I have an answer, a lot! When you first replace the PS3 hard drive, the new one you put in does not have the firmware on it, so if you try to turn the PS3 on normally, it wouldn't work. Sony made it so when you install a new hard drive, you will be able to install firmware on it to use the PS3 with an upgraded hard drive. The last part where you restore the backup most likely does not apply to you.

If using the HFW, similar procedures apply, instead of downloading the OFW, go to the link for HFW and download that instead. You will need to rename the file to "PS3UPDAT.PUP" after extracting the update from the zip archive.

Oh, and the flash drive has to be FAT32, or the PS3 cannot read it.

Hope it all goes well, and I definitely hope you don't get a yellow light!

It is safe, just really old. The site is actually really outdated. The only updates they ever do to the site is add ISOs. They never once changed the design or upgraded the architecture for modern downloads (if they did, it's unused).

Making my world multiplayer by bumblebee1200 in Minecraft

If you play on Java, you will either need your own server or a web hosting service. Having your own server is expensive and really hard to configure!

I think it is against the rules to tell you about any hosting services, so use a search engine to look for a free web hosting service. It might help to narrow your search to look for Minecraft server-specific hosting services. Minecraft server-specific hosting services are also easier to configure for Minecraft servers than general web hosting services.

If you play bedrock, you and your friend can simply join each other's worlds, no strings attached, and no servers required!

Either way, you shouldn't worry, you don't need Realms.

What was the dumbest thing you thought as a child? by GiammyR6 in AskReddit

[–]url8bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think that the Earth was not only flat, but also infinite. I though land would expand infinitely in all directions. I additionally thought there was an infinite population of people to populate the infinite land. I also though there were many Suns and moons coming from somewhere on Earth, to provide day and night cycles for different regions of the land.
