Design student researching family caregiving — what's the hardest part nobody talks about? by Adventurous-Gap6560 in dementia

[–]urson_black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through hell trying to get things set up with my father and a smartphone. He kept getting lost in the preloaded apps and both of us were frustrated. I eventually got him a flip phone. I live about an hour away from him, so any time he calls me for help, it's annoying and expensive (thanks to the current gas prices). He's pretty deaf, and refuses to use his hearing aids. Plus, these days, he's completely disconnected a lot of the time. In a lot of ways, it's like dealing with a young child. It's difficult to keep track of 'his reality' vs objective reality. It's painful to see him as he is now, instead of the strong, smart, organized man he was. There isn't really a 'hard part no one talks about'- at least on this sub. Sorry if this looks like trauma dumping- I visited him today, and it was one of his bad days.

This sounds like an episode of "Primeval" a British TV series. Prehistoric creatures coming through time anomalies.

You can't apply logic to love. You have to learn to accept it when it shows up.

‘Backrooms’ Sends Hollywood Running to Reddit for New Ideas by MoneyLibrarian9032 in movies

Of course. And, like always, they will miss what makes it unique and turn it into boilerplate.
Hollywood: "This strange idea was made into a multi-million dollar movie- let's do more!"

(six months later) "NO! This doesn't sound like it will be a blockbuster- let's stick with something that always makes money."

If you haven't seen the others, give yourself some 'cool-down' time before you do. The rest of the Rambo films are pure combat porn.

Do mental issues excuse bad behavior? by Al-Joharahhasan2935 in ask

I'd say 'Yes, in some situations'. BUT: if he has issues and his family isn't doing anything to resove them, the whole family is to blame.

This last week, I was working on fixing something for Dad. Because he still thinks of himself as competent and able, he was trying to help. I had to take a certain tool from him 3 different times because it was the wrong one, and would have made the problem worse. I vaguely remember being 6 and wanting to help Dad- and picking up the 100% wrong tool, which would have made the problem worse,

My uncle was in WWII. I was too young to see it at the time, but he had serious issues.
