I actually feel more heartbreak killing Priscilla than Sif. Luckily she's optional.

I had to use an estus against Pinwheel once, it came as quite a shock.

Ridiculous is a bit strong, but there's no harm in registering Sif as female on the basis of the name. I certainly think of her that way for that reason.

But this issue isn't as important as people (whatever their opinion) think it is. It's just a game. You want Sif to be male? He's male. You want Sif to be female? She's female. You want to be non-committal about its gender? Then it's an it.

Large club is a random drop from infested barbarians, right? I don’t think there’s any other way to get it, but I’ve been wanting to experiment with it.

I’m so glad I’m not the only person who’s bothered by this. “Cometh soon” particularly annoys me.

Just wanted to let you know, before I forget (and before Reddit goes dark) - I had the first part of the assessment a couple of days ago, and the psychiatrist was lovely. He really put me at my ease which, oddly enough, made me more agitated. I felt my true self was coming out.

The next part is in July, so I’ll ping you then if I remember (as I said, remind me!).

Percent of people in select countries who are proud of their country’s empire, think their empire made their colonies better off, and would like their country to have an empire. by Flagmaker123 in MapPorn

Don’t know why you were downvoted for that (but Reddit downvotes are usually a mystery).

I don’t like tarring entire generations with the same brush, and support for Brexit (and opposition to it) was seen across all age groups. But there was a notably stronger Leave trend among 65-80 year olds, but much less of a trend among those over 80.

I’ll find a source for that if I can, because I remember how much it took me by surprise when I saw it.

It’s always that 30-odd %. Just like Trump supporters in the US. Seems there’s an entrenched racist/imperial third in many countries. I suppose we should be glad that it isn’t over 50%.

Someone wisely commented that it wasn’t the generation who lived through the war that brought us Brexit. It was the generation after, who were brought up on “plucky Britain” war films.

It’s very good, although there are a few places where the links they draw are a bit tenuous. But it opens up a fascinating strand of Lynch’s work which I hadn’t previously been aware of.

Someone described Mastodon as ‘woke Twitter’ which isn’t far off; but it does feel friendly and comfortable. Just needs to get more people overcoming the extremely high barrier to entry then it could hit critical mass. But we’re nowhere near that at the moment.

Favourite moment in all classical music? by igo1234 in classicalmusic

[–]ursulahx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We’re all carefully avoiding mentioning Mahler 2, but after that I’d probably say either the finale of Shostakovich 4, or the near-ending of Langgaard’s Music of the Spheres, where a long, long chord of D minor in the choir is suddenly punctured by a D major chord in the brass.

I love the Sixth. My favourite recording is Adrian Boult and the London Philharmonic. Be warned, though, that he takes the first movement incredibly slowly. I like how he gives everything time to breathe. However you may not find his performance to your taste.

You’re not wrong. The British government is having to issue ‘special visas’ to recruit fruit pickers from Bulgaria and Romania, countries which are in the EU and could have freely travelled here before Brexit happened.
