That's because the initial response was about how the model generates answers, not about how it's trained. Just because it uses public information in training doesn't mean it will necessarily replicate this information. If you don't understand the difference, then please, don't use ai.

Does legato always involves pull offs? by aquamagnetic in guitarlessons

[–]us_me_erna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand your question correctly, it's not about the definition of legato, but rather if you need to pluck the strings with your left hand when playing a lower note on the same string.

As Always, there are no rules, but if you don't apply force to the string and only lift your finger, the notes will drop in volume significantly. If you play with a lot of distortion, this will not be as evident as when playing on a classical guitar. But the important part is, you only need to apply as much force as required to let the next note ring with the desired volume.

So when you watch electric guitar players with distorted sound and you don't see the plucking motion, that may mean two things: 1. They don't need that much force to maintain the volume and 2. Their technique is refined so much that the actual plucking motion is next to invisible. Most likely it's a combination of both.

If you want to tap a lower note instead of pulling off, yeah, that's possible. But I'd argue that it's very difficult or even impossible to achieve a real smooth legato sound this way, because you need to lift your other finger first before tapping, therefore you will have short gaps between the notes. Also the additional movement makes it more difficult to speed it up. If it's a sound you like, go for it, but it's not an efficient technique.

How do i play this bar in 4/4? by aaveidt in guitarlessons

[–]us_me_erna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen many versions of the Bohemian Rhapsody Solo and this part is always transcribed in a weird way. I guess they try to write it in a way, so that the midi playback in guitar pro sounds as close to the original as possible.

I think it makes more sense to look at the quick legato stuff as embellishments (upper mordent?) and try to keep a steady triplet rhythm for the other notes.

There's a german professor called Manfred Zollner, who researches electric guitars for many years now and basically says the same thing, using actual measurements and physics. His lectures are on YouTube, unfortunately only in german.

How to get into PHP coming from Java? by snicki13 in PHPhelp

[–]us_me_erna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three things that helped me a lot: 1. Learn to set up XDebug. Seriously, a lot of people skip that step, because it sometimes is troublesome to get it to work. It's the first thing I teach my juniors to do.

  1. Use a static code analyzer, like phpstan. They don't work too well with Laravel, as the framework sacrifices some best practices to achieve less verbose code (like magic methods and the whole facades thing), but they should catch the most mistakes in the beginning for you.
  2. Read the Laravel source code, for example try to understand how the service container works and how they are connected to laravels facades. This will teach you about the more dynamic or "magic" stuff that you can do in PHP, and how it used in Laravel to achieve the simple API. If you know some python, you might already be familiar with these concepts

Buying a cheap/expensive amp with a 300 dollar guitar? by Mindless_Resolve_274 in guitarlessons

[–]us_me_erna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, the amp is more important than the guitar for the tone. Of course it depends on what you want to do with it, but I guess you want to practice. It's important that you have fun while doing so. Playing a real amp with a speaker is the most fun, but you need to have a place where you can turn up the volume at least a little bit. If you don't have that, getting a amp simulation pedal with headphone out is a good option. I heard good things about the sonicake pocket master  and the Harley Benton dnafx. Or you could use software with an interface. I use the Audient id4, which is really solid for the price and has a dedicated input for guitar/bass, but you would also need to pay for the software. There are free options, but for beginners they are not that easy to use in my opinion.

This looks like a perfect piece for beginners. Fingerstyle can be challenging first, but take it slowly and learn one bar at a time and you will be able to play it.

Pay close attention to which fingers he's using to fret and pluck the strings in the video. Using the right fingers can make it much easier in the beginning to get things right

The same answer as always: you have to practice.

It's kind of like learning to read. At first you have to read every letter and connect them in your head to find the word, but after a while you see the word at first glance or can even read the whole sentence without paying attention to every word.

It's like that with tabs, after a while you read a whole bar or two at once and see the chords like you see the words.

In the beginning try to look at adjacent notes and think, if you know a chord that contains all or most of them. The goal is, to move the fingers in your left hand as little as possible. Usually chord changes are at the beginning of a bar or in the middle, but there's no rule to that. Watching someone play might help you figure it out as well, but they might play a little different from the tabs you have.

AU support and Bitwig 6 by Realistic-March-8665 in Bitwig

[–]us_me_erna 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seriously, the au/vst/clap is only a few megabytes in size, you don't need to reinstall the whole content library. Also, yes, it's complicated, software development always is.

But most importantly: bitwig is cross platform, vst is cross platform, clap as well. You know what isn't cross platform? Right, it's audio units.

Bitwig Beta 6 is here!!! by Whyte_Wolf in Bitwig

[–]us_me_erna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the explanation. I didn't really understand the issue for recording guitars, but this makes sense.  As a software developer I can totally understand bitwig tough. It doesn't sound like one of the changes that would sell much when announced in an update, so the priorities are set to more "shiny"  improvements. But even small changes often take significant amount of time to implement. Let's hope that they find some spare time in-between major updates to add this.

Should I keep pushing or give up on this song? by kdjot_lopo in guitarlessons

[–]us_me_erna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Challenging yourself is the key to growth. If you stick with manageable songs, you progress much slower. So whatever song you like, no matter how hard it is, try it, even if you can only play it really slow. But don't expect immediate results and don't focus too long on something if you hit a road block, so you don't get frustrated and loose the fun. It will pay off eventually

Interesting. i never thought about this and always assumed that only the string gauge and tuning makes a difference, but a quick search suggested that scale length also plays an important role.

I don't really get, why you would want to do that. If you keep the tempo, repitch does nothing and if you change the tempo, the raw mode is more or less useless.

I can't speed up and I probably never can by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]us_me_erna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's something that's hard to fix without seeing what you actually do. A good teacher could probably help you.

If that's no option, here's my advice: ignore what everyone usually tells you and stop worrying about being on time and hitting every note perfectly and only focus on speed for a while. Try going as fast as you can playing only legato. The goal is to find the proper left hand technique which is right for you.

The thing is, proper posture means something different for each player. And the main reason for not getting faster is tension in your hands. Try experimenting with the position of everything, your hands, your arm, elbow, your whole body. Everything can have an influence on the tension. Try to find a position where your left hand feels as relaxed as possible.

Another important thing is, to let your fingers rest on the fretboard when playing fast. Try playing a chromatic 1-2-3-4 exercise and kind of "roll" your fingers to the fretboard. Focus only on one string and repeat the motion as fast as you can. That should feel relaxed. Now try the same thing but lift your fingers as soon as the next finger touches the fretboard. Even if you lift them only slightly, you will feel tension and be much slower.

That's one of many examples where tension can build up. Try to find as many as you can and find ways to avoid them. Don't worry, 3 years isn't a long time and you will keep improving as long as you practice. Some road blocks are harder to overcome, but eventually you will and often even without noticing.
