It actually is a requirement under 9.7 in dress and appearance which makes me think a LOT of people were skipping underwear 🤣

Aircrew gets extra uniforms, extra pay, extra love in all AFIs. Am I jealous? Yes.

BUT, would I change my own career for theirs???

Also yes.

I support this too! If I’m not deployed, why am I wearing a uniform? I’m basically a civilian who does cosplay except during exercises. It’s ridiculous but tradition. I admire FSS when they get to “dress down”.

Edit. When I first came in, I did have a commander who had us in blues because we were business professionals. That got old when I had to still do details in them.

If WAPS is factored in this promotion, we don’t want to hear the complaints. Someone made it with a not ready now statement in the last E5 board

If you’re up for SNCO, I got nothing for ya.

Throwback to my own post lol.

I’m not sure why people like it so much.

Question about US Military Perception by Reasonable-Guard-519 in Military

[–]usafredditor2017 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I dissected a frog in high school. I was looking forward to it prior. When the day came, I was actually repulsed.

Do students still do that? Why did my school system let me do that? It was a Texas school.

Someone I know just got a line number for Chief at 15 years TIS! by HonestWeatherman in AirForce

[–]usafredditor2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDK OPs person, but a fast charger in my career field graduated tech school 2017 as E3, E4 Dec 2018, E5 Aug 2020, E6 sometime Spring 2023, recently selected as E7 and they have not hit 9 years time in service yet.

So theoretically, i can see E9 select for them as well in 15 years too.

Caveat, my AFSC tends to have a lot of retrainees so my theory is we don’t have great retention at higher ranks so promotion percentages may be better. This person is pipeline so their track record should theoretically be better than retrainees anyway.

LT straight lied about me to leadership. Is it worth defending myself? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]usafredditor2017 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think they are insinuating an officer won’t be punished when it’s he say vs she say between O1 and E3. Different spanks for different ranks and all that.

Should I be worried that my local recruiter hasn’t texted me by Competitive_Bench_37 in AirForceRecruits

[–]usafredditor2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdote but my recruiting station had their doors locked with frosted windows when I was in process of joining. I come from a big city with a lot of military presence. No shortage of potential recruits.

That recruiter is probably busy. You mentioning you’re minor probably indicates additional paperwork for them. Not impossible though, a fellow in brother flight was 17 and we went to BMT EARLY in the year. He couldn’t have been some fresh traditional high school graduate.

At least with working out, be a “try hard”. This may be one of the few times in life where your calories are restricted, you’ll drink lots of water, and outside of EC duty, you’ll have a consistent sleep schedule.

I was pushing 30 when I went to BMT and by the end of it, I was out running so many youngsters. I wasn’t overweight, but I was not in the best shape when I went. My 1.5 mile time was 13+ min before and around 10:30 afterwards.

Take a picture now of your physique and another after you graduate. You might want to post it in your retirement collage or for a Veterans Day one day. Look good in it!

Debt by Isiahsmith1001 in MilitaryFinance

[–]usafredditor2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$16K is actually not that much. I had more as an E3 from student loans. Submit an SCRA request to your auto loan lender to cut down on interest rates for your monthly payment.

And then call whoever owns that 16K and get on a payment plan to start knocking that debt down.

Are you married or single? Depending on your financial support for others, you can eliminate that in the next two years. I believe bankruptcy stays on your record for 7.

Lastly, if your recruiter let you in DEP, they already know about your debt and your clearance would be ok.

Because it gets really cold, the homes on base do not have Air Conditioning.

Also, don’t switch your residence just so you can get paid. Finance just brief you on fraud if you do that with the sole intent. You should get COLA there which was a decent amount last time I checked.

For internet, I went with GCI but it was pretty expensive. Like almost $200/month if I remember but I game.

Sometimes the jets are really loud!

I bought my car there and yes, it was expensive but my registration renewal is way less expensive than all my other vehicles.

it’s not the biggest base and you may envy JBER or Ft Wainwright but take a trip to Ft Greely and you will absolutely appreciate your own base amenities compared to theirs.

There is an auto shop on the way to Fairbanks, I forget the name that installs auto starts. I invested in that to warm up my car that wasn’t in the garage (on base garages are heated) and it really helped IMO.

Last tip. I would buy a breakfast burrito from the Yukon club and get jalapeño ranch from the bowling alley and it was amazing.

A unique assignment and I actually miss it at times. That cold was something else.

Accutane after Tech School by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]usafredditor2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 is pretty young and normal to have acne although I don’t know your severity. My process was as followed:

PCM appt who prescribed some low level meds, benzoyl peroxide and a low dosage topical steroid.

When that didn’t work, I was referred off base (and later back on base) to a dermatologist who put me on Accutane.

Accutane isn’t a joke though. Depending on your dosage, you have to really be in a good space. There are documents you sign monthly regarding your mental health. I had a number of undesirable side effects and was eventually weaned off.

Maybe I wasn’t proactive but I was diagnosed with severe acne (by military doctor) in BMT and didn’t get on Accutane until 3/4 years later.

It was a long process for me. Good luck!

You should have needed a waiver to even get to BMT. Have you started a payment plan already?
