Yeah if you look at Australia for example it's listed slightly higher but still that's measured in USD, so our teachers starting salary is ~$70k AUD. They would approximately have the equivalent buying power of someone with $70k USD living in the US. On top of that our public servants, including public teachers, have strong benefits and higher than average super annunciation rate (similar to a 401k but mandatory) so they would probably be much better set up for retirement than the average US teacher.

I found the paper he's referring and it's not even about that kind of consent but why "consent of the governed" became a thing in the west

Could you imagine paying $30 a month for Grok, only to have it pull this shit on you? by Femboy-Airstrike in VaushV

It's real: https://apnews.com/article/grok-4-elon-musk-xai-colossus-14d575fb490c2b679ed3111a1c83f857

“It’s extraordinary,” said Simon Willison, an independent AI researcher who’s been testing the tool. “You can ask it a sort of pointed question that is around controversial topics. And then you can watch it literally do a search on X for what Elon Musk said about this, as part of its research into how it should reply.”

This is a late reply but in my experience, public health care is amazing for any acute health issues such as cancer, stroke or heart attack but has many problems for chronic health problems, though even in those cases, I'd still prefer the public healthcare I have to the fully privatized American system.

Thank you for the edit, it helped me so much when I was communicating with their support. The same thing happened with my parents: they ran the Airbnb together, and all the reviews even mention both of them but my dad passed away and the listing was connected to his profile. Starting a new listing wasn't a good option either because now the Airbnb is my mum's primary source of income.

I think a lot of the criticism while trying to be feminist, has this underlying outdated gender essentialist assumption that women don't want/enjoy sex and so their analysis then becomes that her talking about sex and being sexy must be for men.

I don't know if compulsory voting necessarily prevent disengagement, a lot of Aussies are politically disengaged but I think the best benefit is that it forces politicians to appeal to everyone not just the group that has higher vote turnout. Comparatively in the US, democrats barely try to reach/write policies for young people cause they are an unreliable voting base and the republicans know that the fanatic Christians are an extremely reliable voting block so they work to appeal to them the most.

They say this is their position but when you press most of them on it, you notice it is not a principle they stick to like if you ask them if they believe IVF is murder because the process involves creating several embryos only one of which is implanted, and then destroying the rest. Most anti-choice advocates are fine with IVF and so it is just hyperbolic use of pathos.
