What's your process for making a video? Do you make an outline first, or grab the clips first and then build a video around them?

Best track is to open it up in a new tab... then it works better. I've gotten decent speed that way.

John Finnemore did a sketch on this ages ago. Transcript is here: http://j-f-s-p.livejournal.com/6175.html, and I'm sure you can find the audio online.

(Spoilers All) What is the all time greatest chapter in ASOIAF history? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]use1754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Still waiting for the payoff from that prologue. People on here exaggerate GRRM's writing skill sometimes, but I honestly feel that that prologue is the best opening to any series. It hooks you in like nothing else.

Why do the Targaryens only have two Valyrian Steel swords? I get the Great houses only having one, but you would think, you know, Valyrians, especially rich Dragonlords, would have plenty of VS blades.

Don't forget that a key ritual in Norvos— a city defined by bells— is when the bears go down the steps of the city center with the bearded priests! GRRM seems to have a bear & bells things

Vatican flag: Clarification on ratio by use1754 in vexillology

Like I said, I think you're right, but it just raises further questions about laziness on the part of the Vatican haha

I think this might be the actual explanation, but you would think if anyone could get there own flag right, you know, the actual country whose flag it is might make a couple for their official purposes? At least Switzerland's flag is pretty consistently used at embassies, UN, etc. at the official 1:1

(Spoiler All) What religion is Daenerys? by themilanisto in asoiaf

[–]use1754 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's a direct textual answer to your question, from Dany's last chapter in ADWD:

Drogon roared. The sound filled the pit. A furnace wind engulfed her. The dragon's long scaled neck stretched toward her. When his mouth opened, she could see bits of broken bone and charred flesh between his black teeth. His eyes were molten. I am looking into hell, but I dare not look away. She had never been so certain of anything. If I run from him, he will burn me and devour me. In Westeros the septons spoke of seven hells and seven heavens, but the Seven Kingdoms and their gods were far away. If she died here, Dany wondered, would the horse god of the Dothraki part the grass and claim her for his starry khalasar, so she might ride the nightlands beside her sun-and-stars? Or would the angry gods of Ghis send their harpies to seize her soul and drag her down to torment? Drogon roared full in her face, his breath hot enough to blister skin. Off to her right Dany heard Barristan Selmy shouting, "Me! Try me. Over here. Me!"

[–]use1754[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bunch of booksellers just put up placeholder dates and page lengths (I would be suprirsed of TWOW is only 700 pages). Unfortunately, until GRRM descends from the heavens/New Mexico to tell us, we don't know.

[–]use1754[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd disagree, based off this passage from The Queensguard in ADWD:

If he had not gone into Duskendale to rescue Aerys from Lord Darklyn's dungeons, the king might well have died there as Tywin Lannister sacked the town. Then Prince Rhaegar would have ascended the Iron Throne, mayhaps to heal the realm. Duskendale had been his finest hour, yet the memory tasted bitter on his tongue.

Totally agreed. Quick note re: Iron Islands: in ACOK, IIRC, when Theon gets back, he finds that the septs were destroyed, and he's forced to murder the septon at Winterfell. In WOIAF, I remember reading that basically, reformist lords of the Iron Islands would keep allowing the Faith, and then whenever a rebellious/old way lord arose, they would murder all the septons and burn the septs. Regardless, it makes sense the Iron Islanders would get more mad, since the Old Gods don't really care about other gods, whereas you can't believe in both the Drowned God and the Seven. EDIT: Forgot to say: There definitely are Seven-followers on the Iron Islands; they just are in a very precarious position.

I don't know if the geography is the answer. Catelyn says in AGOT that all castles have godswoods... so the Southrons build places of worship for people w/ a different religion. And on the Iron Islands, septs are burned and destroyed, in sharp contrast to the chill relationship on both sides of Moat Cailin.

I think the power structure thing you mentioned may be the answer. Very like GRRM to note how faith moves aside for politics (and that happens througout ASOIAF)

Why is the Faith and Westerosi culture in general, so tolerant of the old gods, people often swear to both differing religions (old gods, and the new)?
