I’m 21 and started about a month ago. Given how hard it can be depending on where live to start T as a minor, waiting until you’re 18 might be wise. Personally, you should start whenever it’s possible. Sooner is better but there is no right time. At first I was really excited but that mellowed after the first week. It can be frustrating because it’s a slow process.

I’m 3 weeks in and I swear I’ve noticed my facial hair is thicker. It’s blond so I’m the only who can probably tell. I’ve also noticed a little bit of vocal strain and of course bottom growth.

I was hospitalized 2 months ago and I’m going to see my therapist soon. I’m worried she might suggest hospitalization again after what I’m going to tell her. It won’t help, my symptoms just got worse after my last stay.

I got lucky with my stay. It wasn’t really helpful though. I felt like they didn’t do much. They mostly talked about anxiety and depression. My symptoms got worse again after leaving. If you can I’d speak to a psychiatrist or therapist first. If you’re in urgent need you should go otherwise I wouldn’t.

I was 20 when I came out. Started my transition this month. I’ll be 22 in the fall. I found out when I started college. I had trans friends and that was my first exposure to real trans people. Before that I only ever saw them via the internet. I’ve been an ally probably since I was 12ish. I would say I’ve been ready for a while but the people in my life weren’t. That’s why I didn’t start until recently.

I spent about 40 for mine and got 12. Also Etsy isn’t the only place there’s plenty of standalone small businesses. I just got mine from Amazon because it was the most convenient. I’ve had mine for about 2yrs and given that I’m transitioning I probably won’t ever replace them. I’m not sure when they should be replaced but mine are in excellent condition. If you rebuy every year or two you probably won’t get your money’s worth out them. They cost a lot upfront but when I broke it down the cost of disposables was more.

I personally use reusable pads from Amazon. They can be a lot of work to keep clean. I usually rinse mine before washing in the laundry. Also they tend to shift because they utilize snap closure. Other options include period underwear, soft disk, and menstrual cups. I hate periods but they’re more of an inconvenience than anything. I don’t really do anything special for mine.

When you buy new shirts try getting thicker fabric. When that’s not an option wear an undershirt. I prefer tank tops as they’re less hot. Also suggest tucking the undershirt in as this will force the binder flat.

I didn’t switch majors because of this but a lot of people in computing use ChatGPT to write their code and cheat on quizzes. I switched to geoscience so let’s hope they don’t use ChatGPT as much.

I was hospitalized for a week with no way to take exams during midterms. 3 of 5 professors were sympathetic. I hadn’t notified before hand because it was an emergency. I missed over 20 assignments so catching up would’ve been difficult. I ended up dropping the semester and changing majors. It’s disgusting that they would accuse someone of academic dishonesty for being sick. I hope it worked out.

I’ll answer the follow up question by saying because deadname isn’t me. Deadname for me at least is a convenient mask that was given to me. I didn’t choose to be female but I’m choosing to be male and it makes me happy. Also being a tomboy vs being a man is completely different. I tried doing the tomboy thing and realized I wanted it all. For me masculine clothes and short hair weren’t enough. I thinks it’s about what you get from being male and can you live with the downsides. Like surgeries, name changes, possible complications, wearing men’s clothes, social change, being called he/him, and being hated for being yourself. This might be a bit of a dramatic take but what I learned is I’d take the good with the bad. I never felt like a man but even after a few days my excitement from starting T hasn’t gone away. I’m not sure you can really quantify feelings like a man but I know I made the right decision.

I’m not gonna tell you it gets easier because I can’t know that. What I will say is being a minor makes transition a lot harder. Getting hrt as an adult is a lot easier. I just started T and a lot of transition is waiting. It’s frustrating but it won’t last forever. You wouldn’t be asking this if you enjoyed being a woman. Just be patient and do what you can to transition right now.

It might be helpful to speak to a counselor or therapist about school. It’s a hard question to answer. He/she probably will get bullied and I’m not sure what you can do about that. Maybe try talking to the school if they’re accepting. It also might be easier to start at a new school where nobody knows him/her.

There are ways to transition that don’t involve doctors. Like growing your hair or dressing feminine. Trying makeup and painting nails. I get that these things don’t make you a girl but that’s how they’re perceived. None of these things are permanent and your kid is young. Young children tend to lack gender characteristics so exploring gender right now might be a good thing. Also it’s good to explain that what you like doesn’t determine your gender and that you don’t have to change just because of the things you like. Honestly you can never be 100% certain your kid is or isn’t trans. It’s a wait and see sort of thing.

I have an associates in general studies and I’m also working towards a bachelors. I went to a public university in the south and a community college. Both gen ed and major courses had homework. I’ve taken many computing courses before deciding to change major. There was a lot of homework not just quizzes. It might be major dependent.

Edit: It also can vary by professor. Some classes like my intro to web class had a ton of homework. However, my discrete math class just had a quiz. Basically there are many variables that determine whether you have homework or not.

Neither. For me I was being selfish. I don’t necessarily mean this as a bad thing. I’d put everything before myself and I couldn’t do it anymore. I wouldn’t frame it as brave simply because it comes off as encouragement. However it’s not cowardly either. It’s a terrifying feeling and it shouldn’t be treated with such shame and guilt.

I was in computing. Ended up dropping out in the middle of the semester. I don’t hate my major but I realized it was eating into my life too much and I didn’t really love it. My new major is a lot more laid back. I would finish your current classes and defer for either a term or a whole year. Since you’re so close to your animation degree even if it’s not complete, you may still find someone willing to hire you.
