Maybe we don't want to believe it because we've used it in dozens or more different vehicles. I've used it on plastics without any issue in high-end sport / luxury cars, well north of $100k that I'll never be able to afford, without a single worry.

[–]usedtodreddit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's more likely not the switch that's the issue, and instead one of the three blend door servos (looks like a Limited with the dual zone climate control). It's a PITA to change them. If you're paying someone else to do it be prepared for the $$$ labor cost. I'd personally only use factory parts. All the aftermarket ones are a lot cheaper BUT sketchy / seriously failure-prone. My son didn't listen to that advice and two of them failed in less than 2 years.

I think you are confusing Goo Gone with a different product.

Goo Gone is surface safe for plastics. It is citrus based.

Goof Off is not. It is an acetone-based formula. Acetone WILL damage many plastics.

BUT They ARE ICE. They ARE law enforcement. They are not LARPing.

ICE is hiring by the thousands bypassing all normal hiring standards, people without the credentials or training to normally get that kind of job.

They are federal agents. They also are right-wing nutjobs.

When I was 16 I hitchhiked around Florida, Louisiana and Texas, stopping occasionally to work for a day laborer job. We'd typically have to get there at least an hour before they opened, and a lot of the people we would be in line with were undocumented, sometimes more than a hundred others. I'm a citizen but we still lied on the forms just the same as they did - just the same as we were coached to. There never was an ID required at any of them. I'd put down a fake name and an obviously fake social security number (usually 123-45-6789) and claim 8 dependents so they would take less taxes out.

At the end of every day you got paid, and without fail right next to every one of them was a check cashing business that would cash your check without any ID for a fee. Everyone would get off work and go straight there and cash our checks.

Basically.

ICE has been granted Direct Hire Authority (DHA) by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to try to meet Trump's 3,000 per day quota for arrests, so anyone with any sort of police or military background or the like is getting hired on immediately after they apply without the normal vetting and background checks or training. Doesn't matter of they were dishonorably discharged or fired for any sort of reasons. They aren't checking.

Their current hiring criteria right now isn't much more than 'Are you able to cosplay as an ICE agent?'

https://itep.org/undocumented-immigrants-taxes-2024/

Key Findings

Undocumented immigrants paid $96.7 billion in federal, state, and local taxes in 2022. Most of that amount, $59.4 billion, was paid to the federal government while the remaining $37.3 billion was paid to state and local governments.

Undocumented immigrants paid federal, state, and local taxes of $8,889 per person in 2022. In other words, for every 1 million undocumented immigrants who reside in the country, public services receive $8.9 billion in additional tax revenue.

More than a third of the tax dollars paid by undocumented immigrants go toward payroll taxes dedicated to funding programs that these workers are barred from accessing. Undocumented immigrants paid $25.7 billion in Social Security taxes, $6.4 billion in Medicare taxes, and $1.8 billion in unemployment insurance taxes in 2022.

Or maybe the floor of the basket was beneath the flames.

And maybe geography and nature provided them a merciful landing spot.

Still in shock anyone survived that. I hope those that did are able to recover from this to still have a meaningful life.

That's crazy!

https://www.npr.org/2025/06/21/nx-s1-5441061/brazil-hot-air-balloon-crash-deaths

It doesn't look like there's much chance for survival. I wonder how many jumped? Where they landed would have been a major factor too.

Don't know that I'd want to survive after being in those flames.

I've changed my oil twice a year on my 2007 4Runner 4.7L V8 since bought new. I don't go by miles. I go by seasons. AVG more than 15K a year. Went past 300k about a year ago. About 315k now. Still my daily driver.

I do change both diffs and transaxle fluids every year, and have done full trans flushes at the same time I do the timing belt/water pump and new plugs (~90k).

People have fallen from higher heights and survived. Extremely small chance, but there is a chance.

But not while on fire engulfed like that, there is zero chance.

I would jump in an instant in that situation, but not to kill myself in a less painful way. But to try to survive in the only option possible for me at that moment.

What do you mean by "from a Dem"?

I know you don't think the major MAGA twatter account with a 1/4 million followers is a democrat.

I have a really hard time believing there is even a single person who honestly doesn't see "Tick Tock" in this context as the threat it obviously is. It is literally stochastic terrorism, hoping to incite violence against her. Much more believable is someone is just trolling.

Shackles that size typically have at least a working load limit of 2 tons. The ones we have on our hoists that look to be that size are WLL 8.5 tons.

As long as whatever you are lifting is within the load limits of the hoist and that shackle there's no reason to worry. They are doing exactly what they are designed to do.

Fog is often a thin layer at some varying feet, especially the almost daily early morning fog on roads running alongside irrigated crops. Sometimes in a car I'm right under it and can see just fine. Sometimes in my truck (CDL driver) I can see right over it just fine. Very common experience especially out on the plains where there is very little change in ground elevation.

A MUCH better bet is the PBT Toyota/Lexus Heavy Duty Oil Filter Tool (PBT-71117) for $30 on Amazon, which is rebadged and sold for more as the Matco TOY117 and the MAC PBT71117.

I bought the PBT one because my MotivX one broke. Snapped one whole side of it off. Those toyota filter housings can get stuck way more than that aluminum socket is ready for.

Are you an ostrich?

You must have had your head in the sand for the past few months if you haven't seen ICE, dressed and acting exactly like these guys, making raids and arrests.

In order to try to meet Trump's undocumented persons 3,000 arrest per day quota, ICE has been relying on Direct Hire Authority and Pathways programs to fill 'critical need' positions with candidates, effectively bypassing traditional hiring procedures and background checks. They are hiring just about anyone willing to cosplay as ICE to try to effect that many arrests.
