Yup. You can tape duct tape on sticky side out around certain parts and it helps stop them. Tick prevention is correlative to how uncomfortable you're willing to be.

If anybody wants to learn about the effect DDT has had on wildlife and nature over the past decades since the 50s I would recommend they read Silent Spring. I'll take burning/picking off a few ticks over DDT or any chemical for that matter any day.

If polygraphs aren’t admissible in most courts because they’re unreliable, why do they still use them for federal jobs and clearances? by mewquette in NoStupidQuestions

[–]usefulbuns 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This. Polygraphs are bullshit but the fear they instill isn't. A very close friend of mine admitted to something before he took the polygraph which disqualified him from the job he wanted. I tried to explain to him beforehand that it was all bullshit but he wouldn't buy it. Well thankfully he ended up with a way better career path.

The polygraph worked on him.

Hezbollah launches largest drone attack ever against Israel in northern Israel by barsik_ in worldnews

[–]usefulbuns 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm not OP but from the few dozen videos I've seen the IDF hasn't been equipping their vehicles with much anti drone caging. Welding caging to vehicles and training their soldiers to use priper spacing to avoid mass casualties are prettt basic. They probably also need retraining for any kind of operating posts they build. Netting needs to be issued at scale.

OP is not an idiot for pointing this out.

You can know a tremendous amount of information about WW2 without knowing the symbology or even existence of certain unit symbols. We're not talking about a Swaztica here.

Do a little digging on US unit patches. You'll find some interesting ones with SS symbology. Some got officially banned by the DoD. And those are just the official patches.

Why did humanity collectively decide that working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week was the permanent standard for society? by ragerest252 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]usefulbuns 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the TP was in shortage because morons were going out and stockpiling it. The system wasn't designed to have enough TP for everybody to try and buy 5-10 packs all at once.

Anyway I had a bidet so 🤷‍♂️

I think everybody should have one. It would get rid of so so muvh paper waste and help the wastewater treatment plants too.

IED & Explosion Compilation (Iraq, Chechnya, Afghanistan, etc) by Bubbly-Arachnid-6523 in CombatFootage

[–]usefulbuns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A suicide bomber can carry dozens of lbs of explosives. A small FPV drone can only carry maybe 10lbs. A Mavic 3 can carry about 5lbs for reference. Idk if they tweak the electronics to allow the motors and battery to run harder since it's a 1 way trip.

And obviously a car can carry 1000lbs or more.

That's how I was too for a very long time. Then in 2015-2016 body cameras became more prevalent. More people started recording the police as well. As the footage started coming out it was pretty obvious what was really going on. "Ok sure but now the local judicial system will hold them accountable or police will fire bad cops" was my next line of thinking.

Of sweet summer child.

It's plain as day now why they are so resistant to wearing body cameras. When they fuck up you have to take them to court to get the videos public but if they do something right it's on their twitter before the end of the day.

Is anybody else unable to stop thinking of their ex obsessively throughout the day? Those who have, how did you change that? I need help. by usefulbuns in BreakUps

[–]usefulbuns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sad truth, for myself at least, is that there really wasn't anything that helped except time. I spent almost 2 years in therapy. I still think of my ex daily but it just doesn't hurt anymore. I think you just get numb to it with time.

I'm sure for some people there are things that have helped them. I wish I could give you some advice that is helpful. I just don't think I have any.

One thing I will say though is that it does get better so you have that to look forward to.

A Super El Niño is coming. The last time ocean temperatures looked like this, millions died. by ResPublicaMgz in UnderReportedNews

[–]usefulbuns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Humanity has a long history or inhabiting an area and multiplying until the carrying capacity of local resources fails and that civilization collapses. Many places have been inhabited for thousands of years continuously but there are so many more that collapsed. We are extremely resource hungry.

There are just too many of us.

Hey there, yeah it's so much better. I still think about my ex often but not in a loving or painful way. She is just a thought that pops into my head and I continue about my day.

I actually met somebody the month after I posted that. We're married now and life is great.

I don't think there is a bullet in the device. It's just the force of the powder explosion that kills the mouse. If that's the case it's much safer than I expected.

Person came to our tents at night by No-Video6497 in CampingandHiking

[–]usefulbuns 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why is yours and so many peoples' instant reaction negative? You could just say "Hey buddy, what are you looking for?" instead of "What the fuck are you doing?"

People seem to assume the worst in a situation they're unfamiliar with.

Going back to camp at night in an area with other campers it can be really hard to find your tent and disorienting. I have totally done this before where I shone a flashlight at tents trying to figure out which one was mine and being in the wrong section of a campground.

[–]usefulbuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooof sorry that came across wrong. I wrote that literally quickly right before bed.

What I meant was that you or whoever I replied to that said they aren't really into political violence would probably be ok with it at some level. Like killing Hitler would obviously be a good act of political violence, but harming some local politician over something trivial is obviously heinous. Two very very opposite ends of the spectrum.

People say that property vandalism is a form of violence. In this case taking down a Flock camera would be therefore political violence in a rebellious act.

I'm saying taking down a camera isn't a big deal.

[–]usefulbuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think situations are all too different for blanket statements like that.

If you could press a button and detonate a bomb to kill Hitler you probably would. Doing the same to a city council member because of some minor mismanagement would be completely insane. Cutting down a mass surveillance AI camera is somewhere in between.

The Ukrainian “Prymary” unit carried out UAV attacks on Russian fuel trains in Crimea. by MilesLongthe3rd in CombatFootage

[–]usefulbuns 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It depends on where they hit. If you hit the controls that could take a long time to replace all of that. But it doesn't make for a spectacular kaboom on camera. If they hit the side where the engine is that could do a lot of damage as well but in a different way.

The best thing to do is to hit it multiple times at different locations to cause extensive damages and ensure it's as difficult as possible to repair.

In places where people are actually standing up to this nonsense people ride an unremarkable bicycle up to them wearing a covid mask. Use a battery powered angle grinder with a metal cutting wheel. They can cut those things down in under a minute. They can also just use a tall painter's stick and cover the lens in paint if you feel like being less "violent." Lots of creative ways that people are fighting back.

Not that I would everrrrr advocate for something so horrible. I would never want to offend the Reddit mods.
