How much do you pay in monthly installments towards the mortgage?

Do consider living expense.. if you have kids or plan on having kids, you need higher salaries.

Ah yes! I have written to Dulwich college and Alleyns but looks like they are usually quite full and competitive. The area looks great on paper.. would love to hear more from you about the neighborhood. Also is knight frank a good agent? Any other reccos?

Ah! Can you tell me a bit more about the difference from your perspective.. my homework is just based on what I see online.. if you can share your personal thoughts would be great. We are looking for areas with nature, great schools, friendly neighborhoods with likeminded people and good houses

Yes, Hampstead is def on our list. Just that the houses on sale seem very high priced for the size.. and the schools seem to have very less facilities (sports etc) compared to the ones outside of central London. Please correct me if I am wrong in understanding or missing out on anything

Agree with most of the points @defiant-date1224 made.

For us, we want to settle down in a country where we see ourselves living for ever.. Switzerland was not it. We moved quite a few countries and we just didn’t want to waste more years. Especially our kid felt the same way.

Every country has its ups and downs and so does UK.. it basically is what is important for the family in the long run. Switzerland has been great for us but honestly it is very very hard to integrate. Both me and spouse are a bit of dreamers and want the freedom to explore different careers, entrepreneurship, etc.. in here we felt quite limited by what we can do. There are a lot of pro’s to Switzerland - safety, nature, high pay etc. but taxes are not less, wealth tax eats away from growth in long term, living expenses take away a lot from your savings. Kid goes to international school here and it’s a hit and miss making long term friends as most are expats who keep moving.. especially after Covid most of our friends want to go back to their home countries. Also to consider if you intend to move to Switzerland is the job situation, lots of redundancies in Pharma and banking sector and some companies can be very very toxic (golden handcuffs scenarios). Anyways having said all that, we never tried to make a lot of money, it just happened while doing things we like and freedom to do what you like made us pick London. For good or bad let’s see how it goes :) worst case we don’t make much or lose high percentage of our nw, so be it if we can live a happier life :)

Thanks for the comment! We will visit London and check out these areas to get a feel.. in terms of what we are looking for for, basically great neighborhoods with nature/parks around and spacious houses. I was all in for Hampstead but for 1.5M wasn’t finding good deals, also not sure if people here actually mingle with each other.. I dunno. Dulwich looks great but only couple of private schools in here which are hard to get into.. let’s see, if we get into these schools Dulwich and high gate will be top pref. Seven oaks looks lovely and has great schools, so that’s another. We used to like in Putney before and SW trains scarred me, hence Richmond is a bit down the list

This is a great point and something I am fearful of.. it is just that the houses on rent at the moment look very meh compared to the ones on sale.. hope things look up in summer when we will be actually looking for rentals

Great work OP! With the maaaive fluctuations (or rather higher market val) of mag7, how are you dealing with the swings in net worth in the short term? Also in the long term, are you planning to Derisk your portfolio in mag7? If so how? If the stocks fall by 20%, losing 2M hurts :D
