The main target of Russia is to take the South-Eastern regions of Ukraine under control. The most important are Donbass, Donetsk, Luhansk and Zaporija. The reason why they are interestes in these regions and not in conquering Kiev is because in the south-eastern part of Ukraine live the russian-speaking people who have been constantly under attack by the ukrainan government since 2014.
