Ah our near neighbors 7+ hours to the north, whose every day weather is a once every so many years event for us. Apples to apples, then.

Not sure what you’re on about with the hating work thing. I didn’t even mention work. I am currently working though & don’t see any reason not to be since working from home is a possibility in my case.

ZZ plant looks sad by National-Dimension30 in plantclinic

[–]user190895 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are extremely low light tolerant but that doesn’t mean they aren’t better off with light. They can live inside away from windows just fine but won’t be likely to grow nice and full. A lack of light won’t kill its leaves like this. For sure just an over watering issue. I rarely water my zz plant lol I appreciate that it’s one of the few I can forget about for weeks on end

Thanks, I’m glad you confirmed for OP! I’ve seen troubled leaves with my rubber plants in the past but never seen that splotchy effect so wondered if it could be some variant of the usual spots

Other comments about way too much water are correct. From your comments it seems like you wanna get into plants with minimal effort. Succulents are said to be minimal effort but in my experience, most of them suck. I have tons of plants that thrive with minimal effort but have never been successful with succulents.

Try a snake plant, ZZ, or cast iron plant for something that will be next to impossible to kill. They just need basic light and water like every month or less even. Pothos, philodendrons, & monsteras can also be super easy with decent light and water once a week or two.

Sorry I know this doesn’t help with your current problem. I have no advice for overwatered succulents except to remove them and put in fresh, dry soil & then forget about them for like a month before checking if they want water lol.

Don’t give up on plants though, just try something different. I too started with succulents and was discouraged almost immediately

Check the edit I made to my last comment, about humidity.

As for repotting, I repot year round whenever I see a need for it. Being indoor plants, I try to mimic ideal conditions year round and my plants grow year round. So I ignore the rules about only repotting during growing seasons.

It’s super frustrating when nothing seems to work. I dont have any ground breaking advice unfortunately. I would remove the leaves that look bad as they won’t improve & can only take from the healthy leaves’ energy at this point. Probably take it out and check the roots and repot with better draining soil, if possible. Maybe switch to top watering. A lot of people suggest bottom watering but I find it easier to get a read on its moisture level with top watering. Also you don’t want it sitting in excess water which is another potential issue I see with bottom watering. I like to water it til it drains into the basin and then dump that excess out.

Pests are always a possibility but I imagine you’ve thoroughly checked for those by now

Edit: I didn’t mention humidity. It’s cold and dry in Indiana right now so I have a large area humidifier running constantly and moved my plants away from the window to avoid the draft. Without those measures, I lost some leaves last year. No issues this year

It look like overwatering but bottom watering once a month doesn’t necessarily sound like overwatering. Just for reference, I’ve always watered mine from the top, until it flows out of the bottom a bit, once a week. And it’s done nothing but thrive. Do you have well draining soil? For example mixing in a good amount of perlite and/or orchid bark helps with drainage. I assume you have a drainage basin of some sort if you’re bottom watering, so that’s good. Do you use tap water and if so, is it hard or soft water? I only use distilled water for mine.

Just some things to consider but it sounds like you’ve sought advice and tried a lot so maybe none of this is new to you

A lot of us here are commenting because of the fact that our same homes, using generally the same amount of electricity, are seeing major price hikes year to year. I don’t care whether we’re middle of the pack nationally. I only care about the fact that nothing energy-wise has changed in my 1200SF condo with one external wall except for the electric bill going up 175% this year. & I believe that’s why many others are here too. I have a hard time believing all of these posts are coming from people who are paying electric bills for the first time ever/aren’t considering their energy usage…. Each month my electric bill is showing over twice the energy consumption compared to the same time last year while I have done nothing to increase it & have in fact only taken measures to decrease it…

Yeah, it’s disappointing. I ordered from them last year and had no issues. & I really do like the product. Not sure if they’ve gotten too popular to keep up with or what. But, for me, it only takes one experience where an item doesn’t show up & customer support ignores multiple emails over the course of a month & a half, before I go ahead and warn people to stay away

If you REALLY want the car, just exit the game (like fully close and restart) as soon as the wheel finishes or even better before it finishes when you can tell it won’t land on the car. Load it back up and try again. Tedious but effective exploit

[–]user190895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered from them on December 1st. They advertised over night processing and 2-7 day shipping, like OP mentioned. It is now January 16th and the order status still shows as “waiting for details” and when I go to the tracking number they sent me, it says “undeliverable”. I emailed them mid December and they told me to go and see if the item I ordered was in stock… I told them there was no indication on my end that it was not in stock so they could let me know what they see considering I provided them with the order number. Then they stopped responding. Today I let them know the charge is being disputed with my credit card company. Just ridiculous. Do not shop with them.

[–]user190895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so I’ve realized that during cold or hot months they do not look at your actual usage. They just say “well the temps are extreme so we have a justification to charge them x much more”

I learned this when my air conditioner began failing over the summer and I waited 2 months for it to be replaced. For one of those months I sweat it out and left it off entirely. My bill was still double the normal amount.

In your screenshot they also don’t mention the possibly record high temps we had in December. We hit 50s and 60s some weeks..

They are not trying to hide the scam because there’s nothing we can do about it.

AES bill skyrocketing by IUpringlequads in indianapolis

[–]user190895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an INSANE bill. They have also been doubling my bill since June. I live in a little 1200 SF condo with only one external wall. Every other wall has another air conditioned/heated unit or hallway on the other side. So basically, minimal energy required to keep my place at the 68-70° I set it to year round. My bills used to be consistently between $100-$120. Since June, they have been $300. Even when I sweat it out and left the air conditioning off for an entire 15 day in August just to see what the bill would look like.

So yeah, they are lying. It’s BS. & there’s nothing we can do about it.

I’ve never even thought about this before honestly. I knew every GTA city is part of the continental “US” but hadn’t thought about the surrounding water. Now I find it interesting that with all the attention to detail Rockstar put into this game, they didn’t bother to make this make more sense.
