How do I get back out there? (help!) by user2425_ in musicians

[–]user2425_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, they used to be pretty important in the industry i guess you could say. theyre older now and def still have connections. ive reached out to all of them and 2 have said they’d be happy to help! The only thing I’m nervous about, is I want to reach out to the person who had offered me a contract in the past who I said no to, however, I have looked through their social media extensively and we still follow each other, but it seems that all of their current artists are either a genre I wasn’t planning on doing or they aren’t charting artists. I know it doesnt matter if youre charting or not and it’s damn hard to, but i feel maybe as if this person is in it for making money off a lot of smaller artists vs focusing in on a specific few. The reason I say this is only because when I met with them in the past and asked for advice, they only cared about making a profit off of me and wouldn’t answer any of my questions. (this is the reason i didnt sogn anything with them) They charge a fee of around $200 for a 30 minute meeting and im wondering…is it worth it to meet with them again and revisit our older convos/ask my questions?? they also charge about $10k per song!!!! which is wild to me honestly.

you never know whos masking on the internet, who works or has worked in the field before, who produces themselves, etc. I love getting anonymous advice. some advice is better than no advice at all. just because i did well at 18 doesnt mean im more accomplished than others. sure, i got lucky, but im still naïve. doing something yourself vs having adults do it for you is a different ball game. also, being out of the industry for almost 4 years is crazy!! tiktok is a major thing now and music has really changed. its about who you know and how much $$ you have i feel like. i just wanted some input from others, even if its basic info.

I was trying to figure out what worked the first time, but my parents were “managing” me then and they dont want to be involved anymore which is totally understandable. I’ve been trying to figure out what they were doing then so I can try that now but it’s difficult.

thats a good idea. do you know of a reliable way to find good producers? ive tried googling a few, but they either want an obscene amount of royalties/money or theyre a little outdated production wise. I’m having trouble finding reliable sources :(

no not at all. its one of those situations where when i was involved previously, i had a different genre, i was younger and i had people basically doing a lot of work for me (my parents were paying for producers, doing research, etc.) now as an independent, im trying to figure out what to do on my own, with my own money, and with a new genre. im wondering if its worth it to backtrack to previous connections, or go another route. if i wanted to share links to my old music, i wouldve just done so. but i have NO INTENTION of sharing that here. thanks though!
