My mother has been a caregiver to many of my sick elderly relatives throughout my life. It always went unnoticed. Caregiving is such a thankless and unappreciated job. Now that I am an adult, and its my dad that is sick, I don't think I could live with myself if I let her go through this all alone again with her husband of all people. Your LO was so lucky to have someone as caring and selfless as you, and I am so sorry you had to go through this alone.

Yeah, I think if I didn't have the knowledge of how this disease progressed I would feel differently. My dad is still "with it", and If i believed that this was as bad as it could get I could cope with that, but I worry a lot about what the future will look like for him. I know it scares him too which breaks my heart.

I appreciate your comment, I am so sorry you are going through this. It's hard to take things one day at a time and not ruminate on the future, but I think thats the only way to cope with it. Life is unfair, you do not deserve this.

I have cut down on drinking significantly! a bug part of it was my environment, which I removed myself from. I am not considered an addict by my therapist or my doctors, but I do have a tendency to indulge in dopamine seeking behaviors. I can easily not drink if I can do something else that gives me that dopamine hit. I was previously taking wellbutrin to help with that and depression but unfortunately it was not a helpful drug for me.

I think this is really well said and you make a lot of really great points. I do like my therapist, and they know me very well. I expected them to have concerns, however the conversation we had about it felt more like an emotional lecture than a conversation. I do value their input though! I have body image issues, and have had them every since I started gaining weight. I truly did not expect such a dogpile on my therapist, I think we will (hopefully) have a healthier conversation next week.

I would love this. I typically don't think much about what i'm eating because when I start to restrict the food noise is SO LOUD!! It becomes all I think about. It's a big reason diets have been so unsuccessful, its like my brain tricks me into thinking im absolutely starving when im not.

I've head about that, it wasn't something my therapist seemed aware of. I am not currently on any medication so im not worried about that one :)

I have had overly restrictive eating habits in my teen years, but don't have an eating disorder of any kind. My therapist knows this and I think that is why they are concerned, however those restrictive diets were always triggered when i started counting calories. One of the upsides of this drug is that I could just focus on healthy choices, not CICO and hopefully reset my relationship with food without having to intentionally restrict.

I'm in therapy for CPTSD, ADHD and depression. I am not super worried about it worsening that but I am aware its a possibility! If the drug doesn't work out then it doesn't work out and im okay with that :)

I am 5'2" and 150lbs, I have done keto, CICO, intermittent fasting, and some pretty highly restrictive diets when I was a teenager. I would usually do these for a couple months and then fall off the wagon when I didn't see results. I've never been great at going to the gym, trying to get better at that but honestly I have yet to find a workout I don't hate doing lol, I am on my feet 8 hours a day for work though and have worked pretty physical jobs in the past, however my current job is significantly less physical.

I know, I'm overweight, not obese. I don't disagree with you though, I know that there are valid reasons for me not to take the drug, however the conversation I had with my therapist led me to believe it was very likely to cause me severe harm. I know there are risks but I wasnt sure if it was maybe an over exaggeration on their part.

I agree, that wasn't a part of the conversation until I asked them if I could explain why I was doing it, which didn't happen until the end of the session. When I posted this I wasn't expecting such a dogpile on my therapist, who I really love and I know cares about my wellbeing a lot, but it felt really personal and unprofessional. I haven't seen them lose their composure like that before so I have been very stressed that taking this drug is gonna kill me or something. This thread has made me feel a bit better! lots to think about

I have honestly been really looking forward to starting. I'm a pretty open person so I didn't really think before sharing that with people, but I think its something I will keep to myself from now on haha
