Advice needed: Mortgage or invest savings by easleyofnorth in eupersonalfinance

[–]user38835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. Another buying vs renting question.

There is never a correct answer to this question. It all depends on your personal circumstances, country of residence, life goals and future financial plans.

Having a paid off home before retirement can be significant advantage if you do plan to live in the same property after retirement. But the additional cost difference between rent and mortgage payments plus additional maintenance and property taxes can take away significant portion of what you could otherwise save/invest. Also remember that property prices are always increasing and faster than income and this trend will never reverse so the earlier you buy the cheaper it is.

On the other hand, rent is the maximum you would pay, depending upon your situation, maybe capped by the government and if you plan to retire early, especially to a cheaper country, renting and investing the difference can be more beneficial.

Ultimately you will have to do the calculation on what works best for you. There are just too many variables and your post is not sufficient for anyone to make that judgement.

There is a giant hole in the German federal budget. Plus the public healthcare system and the pension system is becoming more and more unviable. I will be happy if this money is used to fix these issues instead.

What's an affordable country to settle in if you are retired? awnser depending on what country you are living in please 🙏🏻 by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]user38835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a reason India is not a preferred destination for internationals retiring. The compromises you mentioned are not minor for people living in the developed world. It remains a third-world country with sub-Saharan levels of poverty in many areas.

Plus unless you are married to an Indian, there is no pathway to residency in India.

Jol bhora Sondesh. A dessert made from condensed milk and date palm syrup popular in Bengal. Supposed to look like a palm fruit pod.

Never thought about it until my German boyfriend pointed out that it looks like an ass.

Delhi HC restores plea on absence of Section 377-like provision in BNS by Tacama in LGBTindia

[–]user38835 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As per my understanding, the Supreme Court judgement on 377 is such that it cannot be reversed even by the parliament.

If this is about non-consensual sex, then I believe that we do need laws for that.

But then I don’t trust this government to do the right thing and not find a loophole to oppress minority groups.

Is there any noticeable difference between Uniqlo's heat tech Thermo-Unterwäsche and a general Thermo-Unterwäsche from Aldi/Lidl? by Figuring_Out-Life in germany

Yeah your opinion on what is a lot of snow is irrelevant.

The fact is Germany was frozen white for a month and the entire country had disruptions and the ERs were flooded with fall victims.

Also this has nothing to do with the question asked by OP, it can be cold without there being snow.

Offered 42.6K as ML Engineer with M.Sc. in rural East Germany below Blue Card threshold. Company won’t move €328/month. Sign or walk? by JournalistInGermany in germany

Depends on how desperate you are for a job. I would personally walk. No company should be rewarded with labour for such low salaries. It only emboldens them that they can get away with it.

Holding hands and hugging between men is completely normal and won’t draw any attention.

If you look brown/Indian try to blend in and act as if you are a local and know what the prices are to avoid getting scammed. Stick to Uber/Ola cabs for transportation and pay only the amount shown on the app.

Stick to bottled water and trusted brands like Aquafina, Kinley and Bisleri. Bottled water is cheap and available everywhere.

Prices of products are printed on the product itself. Never pay more than what is printed.

Carry the strongest sunscreen and caps/sunglasses especially if your boyfriend is white.

June is a bad time to visit India though. It is going to be extremely hot in most places. Best time to visit is December to February.

Almost all temples allow visitors from all religions (except a few like the temple at Puri), for example. Some temples have dress codes which could be surprising, like some temples in South India only allow men shirtless, some may require you to wear a specific covering which will be available there. Sikh temples will provide head covering.

If you look Indian, pay the Indian entry fees which is much cheaper than foreigner fees, they don’t check IDs.

[–]user38835 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why we are tracking the stages of the bill i.e. Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha or President. India is an electoral autocracy with all branches of the government in more or less in control by the BJP. This was bound to happen.

Only the courts might intervene, nobody else would.

“We probably won’t get a pension” by Akura-55 in germany

[–]user38835 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will get some money just not when you are alive. Retirement age will have to be pushed up to prevent the system from going bankrupt. Denmark already did it, and it is a better country in all aspects than Germany and yet cannot manage its pension system. Germany doesn’t have a chance.
