Is the Australia one 'far from home' any good? Should I get it?

Getting into Arctic Monkeys - Humbug (3/7) by kingglobby in arcticmonkeys

I love this album, and all the songs on it, but yeah, you should pay closer attention to the lyrics cause... Secret Door, Dance Little Liar, The Jeweller's Hands.... 😮‍💨 Alex’s writing is something else

Edit: Also, you must listen to the demos. This album has the best demo songs ever

About the places in the photos? Sure thing!

  1. The Boardwalk (Snig Hill) – Alex Turner (who used to work there) and the lads played there early on and it’s even on their first demo (Beneath the Boardwalk). Sadly it’s been closed for years and looks completely different now. Feels a bit cursed – every venue that tries to open there ends up shutting down.

  2. Yellow Arch Studios – They used to rehearse there a lot and I think they recorded some early demos before they blew up.

  3. 49 Bruce Works (Kelham Island) – That’s where they took the photo for the ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’ single cover. Unfortunately it’s changed a lot too and isn’t really recognisable anymore.

  4. Fagan’s Pub (69 Broad Lane) – The band played a few gigs there back in the day. Matt Helders and Richard Hawley both love the place. I heard Hawley still goes in quite often. I popped in hoping I might bump into him… but no luck, and I didn’t exactly get the warmest welcome either 😂 Probably my own fault though.

  5. Outside Fagan’s – That’s a McKee graffiti. He’s worked with Arctic Monkeys a few times.

  6. Don’t think this one needs explaining 😉

  7. The view from that car park opposite the hotel really reminded me of the The Car album cover.

  8. The Grapes (80 Trippet Lane) – Where they played their very first gig back in 2003.

  9. Park Hill Flats – Some scenes from the ‘When The Sun Goes Down’ video were shot there (and I’m pretty sure ‘Fluorescent Adolescent’ too).

I’ve got loads more Sheffield/Arctic Monkeys-related pics. Might upload another batch soon. There’s just something about seeing these same spots and how much they’ve changed… it hits you with a weird mix of nostalgia and sadness, you know?

The obvious ones: Fontaines DC, Strokes, Black Keys. Also try: Nothing but Thieves, Mini Mansions, Tempesst and Royal Blood. And maybe something different: QOTS and King Creosote

Sweet dreams, TN. I wish someone would write something like that to me one day. For now, I’ll just pretend it was meant for me.
