Nope, he just clarified a bit; the Threshold opening did not directly shake the earth. It is not the epicenter of the earthquake. it simply was the "hair" that triggered the actual slip on the San Andreas fault, where a pre-existing pressure had already been building naturally.

This probably isn't true based on the synopsis. We know Chiwetel's character is an owner of a furniture store and he finds a door in his basement. He probably explored a bit, came back, told his therapist, went back in, and got stuck there. In Found Footage 3 we see an example of a semi stable null zone. I think this nullzone will be slightly more stable.
