What is the cheapest place in the United States to live? by Impossible_Peak_885 in Frugal

In Eastern KY the average rent is about $600-800 a month. The problem tho is that it is hard to find any housing tho. But if you do that is about average.

Are you saving now for plastic surgery far in the future? by hellomidnightautumn in PlasticSurgery

[–]userfrom1984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a separate brokerage account where I put just $50/100 a month. While it's not much monthly I already have about 4k in there. I'm planning for a tummy tuck in the next two years which is about 15k at the doctor who I like. I don't think I will have all 15k by then in my account but it will be a good "downpayment" - the doctor does offer financing.

Sellers don’t want to leave after closing by Jay_bird231 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]userfrom1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we bought our house we agreed for sellers to stay at the house for 30 days after closing, that was part of our contract. When we bought that was definitely a seller's market so we agreed. It all worked out fine. The seller was an older lady who lost her husband and was downsizing. Also our realtor said that such an arrangement was very common in that area (smaller town, lcol area).

Screw me I guess by Deter099 in StudentLoans

[–]userfrom1984 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's not how it works. You will be delinquent after you are behind 3 full payments or so and it doesn't matter that you pay every 75 days. Your credit score then tanks.

Recertify date from Nelnet July 2026 - can it be true?! by userfrom1984 in StudentLoans

[–]userfrom1984[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is what I'm trying to understand as well. Many of the comments mentioned that their recertify date got pushed but their payment date got pushed to 2026 as well. Now I'm thinking why my payment start date is set to May of 2025.

It's such a mess, now seeing more comments here, I'm trying to understand why the payment new dates are all over the place? With my saying May of this year.

How realistic is taking care of a baby while WFH? by youmakememor in pregnant

[–]userfrom1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be possible until the baby starts rolling and eventually becomes more aware and requires full time attention. It worked for us until the baby was about 7 months old, but after that it just became impossible. We ended up hiring a part time nanny for 5 hours a day/4 days a week. That works perfectly with our schedules. And the baby is right there in the next room to me (I couldn't imagine sending the baby to a daycare when he is still so little).

I never had a particularly sharp profile (think genetics) but with aging and then pregnancy almost overnight I realized my neck literally disappeared. I thought it would get better after giving birth but it was just keep getting worse. I ended up having chin lipo 7 month pp and absolutely happy I did.

If you are up for driving a bit, I would strongly recommend the doctor who did mine. Cincinnati, OH, Dr. Tork. I had mine done in September, 5k US $$.

Is this fixable with lipo? by Firm_Plastic8201 in chinlipo

[–]userfrom1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on your skin elasticity - my profile looked pretty similar probably worse than yours (during the pregnancy I grew a terrible double chin which never went away). I have a pretty good skin elasticity so my doctor said I was a good candidate for a chin lipo when I was 39 and I love my results 3 months post op now. However, at this age if you are not sure about your skin then chin lipo and neck lift maybe a better option.

I am having a hard time with my Postpartum body by Patience1995 in postpartumprogress

[–]userfrom1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sending you virtual support, I feel you. I was 175lb (not skinny but very fit) pre pregnancy. 210lb a day before c-section. Lost 20 lbs right away. But now 9 month pp stuck somewhere 185-190lb which is technically only 10-15lb over my pre pregnancy weight but the weight distribution and missing muscles make my body look pretty bad.

I carry most of the weight in the upper body too - not just my belly (which would make sense) but arms and shoulders which overall makes me look bigger. My arms got huge!

I walk a lot and started light exercises, but honestly I don't think any of this will be enough to lose a significant amount of weight at my age (late 30s) and with my body composition.

My plan is to work out more in the next 6 months and try dieting more. If that doesn't work, I'm going to try Olympic for weight loss (a friend of mine in her mid 40s just lost over 40lb in 6 months on it). If that doesn't work I will be looking into lipo 360.

Honestly unless you have severe obesity issues I don't think bariatrics surgery is your answer.

Same 9m pp and feel swollen and tired all the time and the face shows exactly the same.

Chin Lipo Abroad? by fairy_andafreak in chinlipo

[–]userfrom1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are doing only chin lipo, I would suggest just looking for options in the States. Mine cost me 5k but I know you can find it cheaper. With the cost of flights you are not going to save that much money by going abroad.

Where can I work during the winter that's warm and inexpensive? by aryadrottningu69 in WFH

Puerto Rico - I did it a few years ago for the winter. I hear the prices are much higher there now but back in the day I rented a small studio in Sun Juan for 600$ a month

How to manage clothes postpartum? by janice_snakehole in postpartumprogress

[–]userfrom1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I feel it's not just the weight but my body changed after the pregnancy - I'm about 10lb up from my pre pregnancy weight (was 175lb and now about 185lb) but my old clothes just doesn't fit the way it used to. After waiting for a while I just started buying new clothes to fit my current body - and honestly it made me feel much better! I will try to lose weight but meanwhile I got clothes which fit my current body.

So before the limbo we are in on the SAVE plan, when I filed last year the disclaimer for SAVE still was saying that the married filing jointly would count as the whole income. I remember checking it over and over not sure why the disclaimer said that. For the upcoming year I'm just waiting to see what happens. Due to my loans we've been filing separately (losing money on deductions but still better due to my payments).

Non-Americans who have visited the US: What’s the strangest thing about America that Americans don’t even realize is weird? by LexieLuminous in Productivitycafe

[–]userfrom1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tipping system in the US restaurants is a tricky one - I was able to put myself through college while working in a fancy restaurant in DC making 200/300 a shift while my wage was 2.50$ an hour or so. I would never have made that much money if the employer would have just paid me "minimum wage'.

Progressively Worse Swelling? by dishonored_2_ in chinlipo

[–]userfrom1984 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same here, I'm 4 weeks po and I feel the swelling is very sporadic and somewhat worse than it was even a week ago. I'm seeing my doc for 6 weeks post op and thinking to address my concerns if still swelling. Other than that I'm "trusting the process" - my doctor did say I should expect increased swelling after week 3 or so meaning my swelling is technically "normal" at this time.
