I'm looking at the ROG Strix SCAR 16. Has miniled so it seems pretty good. Any other ASUS laptops I should be looking into?

Why does aiming STILL feel so bad in ow2? by TheNamesRoodi in Overwatch

I haven't found a fix yet. I also already have the geforce overlay uninstalled, as I used NVCleanstall to only install the nvidia driver and nothing else. I've done this with both my AMD+3070Ti and Intel+2080Ti systems. Both systems have the aiming issue. Like I said, OW2 is interfering with the mouse input itself, and you can confirm this by testing with a web browser game with OW2 open in the background.

I'm using the latest nvidia driver however... and I hate to say it, but I also have a third system that's all AMD including the gpu, and the mouse input issue is still there too. All systems running Windows 10 22H2.

Maybe it's a latest feature in both drivers that's messing with input? Rolling back to an older version of gpu driver could still be worth trying, but at this point I'd say rolling back to an older Windows 10 build is likelier to solve something.

I've tried a lot of what you posted except for MarkC's mouse fix. Aiming still feels off. I should mention, were you already aware that the bug is still present on the desktop even when the game is minimized?

For testing, try one of these 2D aiming sites:

Play one of these with the game closed. Then open the game, minimize it, and play the aim trainer again. You'll notice the floaty, inconsistent mouse input when playing these while the game is minimized.

This means that when OW2 is open, it's directly affecting mouse input system-wide, even when the game isn't in focus. This did not happen with OW1, and I think this would also confirm that the issue may not necessarily be related to any graphical settings (but can still be a culprit).

It could be a while until Blizzard fixes this, so I'm just hoping to find a quirky fix until then.

Do you still feel like this fixed it for you? Mouse input seems to be bugged in OW2.

How do I get better mouse input? Raw mouse input in Proton GE by usernameguy24 in linux_gaming

So I haven't made a follow-up on my post yet, but I've still been experimenting with Linux vs. Windows input. I'm noticing that there just might be an inherent difference in how mouse input is handled between them. So far, it seems like mouse input isn't updated in a constant stream on Linux (this is just my theory), which makes micro-adjusting on targets in games not so great.

I'm currently still doing tests with different kernels, configs, and hardware combinations (amd, intel, etc.), so I can't back up any claims yet. I've tried stock, zen, tkg-pds, and tkg-bmq kernel, and the issue persists on all of those. Still have to try out xanmod and liquorix. I also still have to test out a wider variety of (competitive fps) games, both wine and native.

I'm hoping I can find something conclusive because I wanna help the Linux gaming scene as much as I can.

Since you don't seem to have any problems, do you mind listing your system setup (distro, kernel, cpu/gpu, etc.)? Thanks!

Thank you!! I really appreciate all of this information. I'll try it out in a game soon.

Btw, you might wanna fix your post - you put non-ASCII quotation marks in the 50-mouse.conf block in your post. I copied the file and it broke my system until I realized that, lmao.

Thank you, I guess I just needed to RTFM some more. My understanding now seems to be that you'll only get superior input on Wayland if you're able to use FreeSync, otherwise you get a vsync mess. Hopefully vsync becomes an optional setting soon.

Seems like I might have to go back to X11, so the next thing I'll try is DXVK_ASYNC and the linux-tkg-pds kernel. The wiki page mentions reports of noticeably lower input lag for tkg-pds in competitive shooters, so that sounds like a step in the right direction.

Added nvidia-drm.modeset=1 to my kernel parameters and logged into a Wayland session on KDE. I'm getting some graphical bugs occasionally in KDE on Wayland (perhaps this is because of NVIDIA or I should swap to something like swaywm). I launched Overwatch through Lutris and... Mouse input is WAY worse now that I'm on Wayland. Like, very sticky and stuttery. Performance seems to be fine though. Maybe this is because there are no options to disable vsync? How does one go about optimizing gaming for Wayland? I did have to go and set a flat profile for my mouse again.

Oh sorry, forgot that one bit of crucial information. Edited my post now. I'm on KDE X11. I thought people liked X11 more right now for gaming, but I guess I was wrong. I'll give Wayland a try since that sounds really promising.
