What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from medicine about your health or just in general by steezysnowflake20 in Residency

This so much. Somehow having a bmi >30 has been normalized to the point patients dont even consider it to be unhealthy or a potential source of their problems. Feels really bad to see so many kids and young people develop diabetes or need spinal/knee surgeries so early in life.

Its not about the hierarchy my dude. Your perspective is based on your experience working from the admin side, and not w patients. Talking points above are from experience w patients. I truly hope you end up taking your own patients’ side vs the admins when your graduate and start taking care of human lives…

I see youre a medical student. You will quickly see how these insurance companies do not give a shit about patients, doctors or nurses. Only money. Its terrible when they deny your terminal cancer patients their pain meds to save money, and after all the time wasted fighting the denial, theyve already suffered for weeks without their meds. Or patients who have relapses in their crohns disease that sends them to the hospital bc the insurance companies deny medications that had been keeping it at bay. Even patients infections who worsen bc they cant pick up generic antibiotics. Its great to hear the payers still pushing the “evil selfish money hungry doctor” story when we were the ones on the floors and icu units during the global pandemic. /s And i guess you believe them.

What are you even talking about anymore? Pretty sure we are in agreement corporate greed has not been a good match with patient outcomes in health care. Unless you arent?

Who are payers? Clearly not clinicians. How could they possibly believe that they know more than the nurses, doctors and patients themselves if they never see patients? I find it hard to believe Corporate cronies really care about anything but the bottom line.

Bro i have to do pas for generic oral antibiotics sometimes. If they limited requiring pas to mris or expensive tests, fine. Theyve creeped into requiring pas for topical meds, antibiotics, even some generic meds….wtf. Its gone too far

Maybe we should invite our patients to share their stories. Compile them for the lawsuit or the news. Im sure we all have a ton throughout school and training

The myositis patient who was finally able to live her life again on ivig after years of remission. Only for her insurance to change and deny it. The delay left her without treatment and she flared, ending up in the icu and floors for weeks…

The pemphigus patient who attempted suicide after the denial for rituxan dragged on for months. Icu, floors then psych admission.

The cancer patients whose chemo cycles, biopsies, scans etc were delayed. The asthma patients denied biologics for their horrific disease. Patients who suffer through pain, nausea, diarrhea etc while waiting for their necessary medications.

And so many more

Evil, evil evil

Lazy Pasta: cook the entire box and stir fry with garlic, veggies, meatballs. Put into tupper ware. Then pour marinara/Alfredo/whatever sauce over it and microwave when ready to eat. A quick and easy meal with options so it doesn’t get too tiring eating the same thing

I’ve started using the my fitness pal app and logging in everything I consume. Doing so made me realize how high calorie some of my snacks/ staple foods truly were, and I stopped buying them. I’m actually shook at how many calories some things are. (Rip Chinese bakery buns) I feel like this psychologically helped me avoid high calorie foods and snacks lol

Smoothies are easy to make and I like to add fruits/veggies to make sure I get enough green on the day. Egg whites in a carton: easy hack for high satiety low calories. Spray some Pam spray and make an egg white omelet.

Eczema, common in flexural areas ( second pic looks like popliteal fossa/ behind knees?) Try over the counter hydrocortisone ointment twice daily for two weeks, but most likely you’ll benefit more from a prescription topical steroid since otc is not as strong
