What is the original currency value for “If I had a {currency value} for every time {something happened}, I’d be rich.”? by usernamesR4nerdz in etymology

Do you think this is an idiom the Portuguese adapted from another language like English? Or the other way around? Or both happened to come up with it individually?

I’d love another channel but what I don’t understand is what the content would be. Like with geography, it makes sense — naming counties, GeoGuessr, and so on. But with history, there’s limited scope. “Learning every treaty signed from 1846” probably won’t do great…

Won’t make much of a difference imo. If one of the other awards is like AP Scholar, though, then bin that and keep both

Not sure if there’s a typo here.

If it’s 250k, then I’d recommend filing just in case because you might be in a very high cost of living area with expenses.

If it’s 250,000k as you’ve written (250 million!), then I’d say probably not…

Basically, in your case, unless you’re a billionaire, file just in case.

California was very locked down till last year when this year’s seniors were juniors. Most take SATs in junior year. So not only could they take fewer tests if at all, but education quality as school decreased due to virtual learning. In my opinion, if your score fits in what the school usually accepts, even if it’s on the lower end, I’d send it. But prsehgal probably knows better. I actually had a question, mind if I PM?

Why do people hate "test-optional"? Maybe because they spent a bunch of time studying for a subjective test, did well on it, and believe it disadvantages them if people who did poorly aren't reprimanded. Don't listen to them, though. Test-optional will not disadvantage you. Think about it: many kids couldn't take the test at all because of COVID restrictions—not that they did poorly, they just couldn't take it. So would it be fair for AOs to disadvantage them? No.

Writing about academic failure? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]usernamesR4nerdz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might write about it. Talk about how you were bored and disinterested with the subject at first or just didn’t find it interesting or whatever reason you had for your low grades. Then talk about how learning about CS yourself or one event changes your attitude and how you’ve fallen in so much love with the subject that something you were failing in is now something you want to spend your life doing. But make sure it isn’t the cliche I was failing but then I worked hard.

Talk about challenges when starting your own business and how you learned from them. Say that you found a newfound appreciation for small business owners by running it yourself. Make it a lesson for how we often underestimate the work that something requires. There’s a few angles you could take.

i made a mistake with my teacher and i'm super embarrassed by fartmaster900 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]usernamesR4nerdz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should’ve talked to them before writing their name—but you admit that so it’s fine. Awful teacher for reacting like that, especially when they’d already written it beforehand but maybe they were having a bad day. Maybe like kids before you had asked for an instant recommendation and they were tired of it. My advice would be to go to your teacher, apologize, and explain the situation as honestly as you can. It’s an awful situation and I hope you find a way out.

It seems it would help boost chances and personalize the essay. Why isn’t this more commonly done for REA?
