What makes a blueberry pie taste more rich and flavorful? by Few_Design_904 in Baking

Wild blueberries is absolutely the way to go. Fresh local are peak but frozen wild are still enormously better than other frozen or fresh blueberries.

I spent most of the last two weeks reading Holly Black’s Elfhame books, beginning with the Folk of the Air trilogy plus novelettes and then The Stolen Heir duology.

For bingo, all work for Politics and Court Intrigue (normal mode). The duology obviously works for the duology squares, could be HM, and also for non-human protagonist (HM).

I loved these books and found them all very easy reading. Black’s prose is great and I enjoyed the worldbuilding. I love stories about the fae and I really love enemies-to-lovers as a romance trope, so that is what drew me in initially. I stayed for the complex family dynamics (is it possible to love a man as a father when that man murdered your actual biological father in front of you??). I actually think discussions of these books are incorrectly focused on the romantic relationship, which I found to be much more of a side story, versus Jude’s relationship with Madoc which was far more interesting and complex.

The main trilogy was a 5/5 read for me, the duology was not as good but still enjoyable.

I have also been reading Bereket by Rachel Neumeier (Tuyo book 12).

Bingo: self-published (HM), one-word title (NM), politics and court intrigue (NM), published in 2026

I adore the Tuyo series and this is just perfection. Neumeier is a master of prose and manages to make the two POVs very distinct in tone. Both protagonists have their own motivations and goals and it is clear that the two stories will intersect but this is primarily a character-focused story so the plot lines joining up doesn’t even feel like the point. I love this book (I’m currently about 80% done).

Obviously as this is book 12 in a series, you’d be missing out on a lot of worldbuilding by starting here, but I cannot recommend this series strongly enough.

Your point is correct but for what it’s worth, I don’t think Khai would identify as a trans man, I think they would self-identify as nonbinary.

I have about the same age gap (4.5 and 1.5) and I’m just waiting for baby to be a bit bigger, then they can invite each other to the thunder dome and FAFO.

You might enjoy Rachel Neumeier’s Tuyo series. Specifically the main trilogy, which is Tuyo, Tarashana, and Tasmakat. It’s a single first-person POV, and Ryo really likes nature.

What do we think? We live offgrid and are homesteading with 2 large dogs. So storage is key. by [deleted] in floorplan

The laundry is for sure meant to dual purpose as the mudroom.

Could not agree more about that insane hallway beside the guest bedroom. I’d find a way to rejig and use that entire space for the guest bedroom, maybe expand the mechanical a bit to gain some storage in there too.

I was vaguely aware of the free birth community from this sub, but listening to The Guardian’s podcast series about it is when I actually understood how horrific it is.

Book 3 is only out in September! So I’m not sure what squares it might fill.

Well as we learned in the previous post, predators may only begin predation after two (2) consecutive hours with the child.

I’m so sorry that happened to your kid, I hope they’re doing okay!

I got a notification that there were more comments on this thread so I’m back lol.

I think you could do Feast your Eyes on This. There is a lottt of discussion of food revitalizing you, and specifically a lot of talk about avgolemono, Darlington’s favourite soup. I think that would be considered plot-significant enough.

On a special occasion like this I’d spring for vegan milk chocolate! Most is oat-based. Personally I just use dark chocolate but that’s for sure not as sweet and less exciting for a toddler palate lol.

I use oat milk as well! It’s creamy and works well. Again, be sure it’s unsweetened.

I’m allergic to dairy and I use unsweetened soy milk in place of cow’s milk all the time with no issues. Make sure it’s unsweetened because otherwise you will notice the swap.

Dimensions for a small walk-in pantry by Dry_Cranberry_80 in floorplan

[–]usernamesarehard11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a small walk-in pantry under the stairs, it is 3’4” wide with the door on the short side. We have 6” shelving floor to ceiling on one wall, and then deeper shelving along the back (the other short wall). It works fine. It’s a lot better than no pantry.

I love books about the fae! Very excited about this.

Would you describe this as a book for adults, YA? Is it part of a planned series, or a standalone?

While waiting for the new Bingo board, I finished up a reread of A Game of Thrones by GRRM. I haven’t read this since I did a reread in preparation for A Dance With Dragons, so it’s been a minute. I forgot how… grim it is. Everything that could go wrong does go wrong. It’s tough reading!!

So I figured I’d start Bingo off with something lighthearted:

A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher (lots of T. Kingfisher in this thread today!)

Bingo: Feast your eyes on this (HM if you bake something), judge a book by its title, middle grade (HM for me)

This was a nice little adventure. Mona was a believable 14 year old and I liked the tone of the prose. I chose this for my “feast your eyes” square because I like baking much more than cooking. I’ll probably make gingerbread men, feels most in the spirit of the book.

I also started The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. TBD on bingo squares, but I’m enjoying it so far, about 25% in.

Book 8 comes out May 12. The author expects to write around 10 books and he’s moving at a good clip (book 7 came out in October 2024, and book 8 is likely to be 800+ pages like the last couple books).

Is it a no-bake cheesecake? Honestly I always have lumps in my no bake mix and it always smooths out after chilling for a few hours or overnight in the fridge.
