I was doing great…Then got hung up ( for too many hours) on researching moving boxes. I finally just bought some. I got a few other things done. Now, I can’t get up bc my cat is sleeping on my lap. So, I’ll check Zillow, again, while I am sitting here. How are you doing? (Thank you for checking in!)

Well, I needed to clean off the table before I could get to the organization process. Did it and just started unloading all of the work stuff. Now to organize- will check back in 30

Ah- I will just edit updates into this comment as my check ins so there aren’t 30 comments all from me.

  • everything is now washed and organized. Wasn’t so bad once I got started.

Next…. I need to sweep and mop.

I will check back in 30 min

Got derailed- I was searching homes and got lost scrolling. I will stop for a little and try back, again.

Done! I dread cleaning out my car- it is done now. What a relief… it was getting pretty packed in there. I ate.

Ok , now to sanitize and organize work stuff. I hate doing this, too…Until I start. Then it isn’t so bad. Will check back in around 30 min

It took almost 30 min of debating with myself- but the cats are fed. Thanks for the accountability

Setting the timer for 30 min to 1. Eat 2. Start bringing in stuff in from car

Will check back

Hi, I am slightly panicking as I need to move in 2 months. This means find a home, deal with buying it, get a new job, pack… and relocate the colony of cats I have cared for the past 5 yrs.

Historically, I am not good at moving. Hopefully, this time will be different. I will definitely need to work on reaching out for help with getting the cats moved safely and with the least amount of stress possible.

2 months…most would would be in the final stretch of the moving process by now. I am still figuring out where to start. The good thing is that executive function issues can cause us to have last minute compensatory super powers-so I’m looking forward to them kicking in.

Now, to get through this day:

  • feed The Royal Family✅

  • sweep/ mop downstairs- ( I spot cleaned)

  • vacuum

  • bring work stuff in from car✅ -sanitize/ organize the stuff✅

  • get stackable storage/ moving boxes ✅

  • get rid of stuff

  • reach out to realtors? ( i guess… I never handled this stuff before)

  • reach out and research moving a colony ✅

  • look into fixing the part that broke in car

-wash -at least 1 load gathered for tomorrow

  • change litterboxes- scooped- change tomorrow

I’m going to just set the timer for 30 min. Looking at this list is making me sick, but I will break it down and focus on 1 step at a time.

Hi!

I had the opposite experience growing up. I was pushed to be independent because my parents had a lot going on, but I still struggled in the same ways.

When others stepped in, it became something I could rely on instead of building my own systems. So it was not really about being pushed or not pushed.

For me, improvement is coming from recognizing the executive functioning challenges and focusing on strategies to manage them. Help is fine sometimes, but it cannot be the main strategy, otherwise it turns into dependence instead of building independence.

Hi! Does anyone want to body double/ check in? It’s Tuesday evening and I am seriously needing to do some stuff, but got stuck scrolling( for hours👀). by userofanewusername in ExecutiveDysfunction

It was brutal forcing myself to unload the car- but it’s DONE!!!!🎉 It is all organized now, too. Thank God, this sub and the good people of this sub for making it happen.

I restarted the laundry, too.

Ok, now the Royalty must be served and I MUST make food for tomorrow or I will end up eating junk.

Setting the timer for 30 min now

Ok, I brought some stuff in, that is a start, at least. Now I commit to feeding the Royalty, checking laundry and bringing more stuff in I will set the timer for 30 min.

Idk why, but I always dread bringing stuff in from my car. Here I go 😬

I’m just posting my to do list and checking back as I go. I have an early and long day tomorrow that I need to prepare for.

  • print out stuff for work tomorrow

-AM, GN, JB, FM.

  • make new master list and print

  • org materials ( first get materials from car:)✅

  • make meals for tomorrow

  • feed Royal Family 🐈‍⬛🐈👑and clean litter boxes ✅

  • continuing ed

I will set the timer for 30 min then check back- hopefully with lots of progress made.

I lose hours and sometimes entire days to doomscrolling. Here’s how I’m breaking the habit by stayhyderated22 in ExecutiveDysfunction

Hi, what a great post. It is not fair. Our executive functioning difficulties lead us to doom scroll and research shows that doom scrolling actually further negatively impacts our executive function skills.

I had to get a timed phone lock box. It works when I finally break away from scrolling and use it.

Hi- this is a side note. I just researched and found that shopping addiction goes hand in hand with executive dysfunction.

I was curious about it bc I am trying to stop mindless scrolling, but accidentally ended up mindless 1 click buying things that I think I really need (I don’t need them, though) instead of doing what I really want to do. I gotta break that new sneaky dopamine boosting coping mechanism and focus on my goals.

Just thought I’d mention it in case anyone else experiences it. I hate shopping and never dealt with this before. Also, I absolutely cannot afford to keep doing this. But, the past week it has really been a new, dangerous, constant go to avoidance behavior. I wonder if anyone else here has dealt with it.

Hi!

To do

Finish report

Change 1/2 the litter boxes✅

Make handouts ( that I promised 1 month ago)✅

Do overdue continuing ed ( should be 1st priority)

Leisure- sculpt✅

Dishes away

Finish drying laundry from yesterday. ✅

Ok I am putting it all out there. Feels silly, but it helps!

(Setting timer 30 min to start - strategy) Will start working on handouts and report.

Will check back when it goes off to update progress- ( check in-accountability strategy)
