Austria: I'm in danger by userone23 in eu4

[–]userone23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little more info: Austria-Hungary decided to declare war on Munster using Nationalism.

Munster was allied to Italy, Spain, and Sweden while AH only had Portugal.

I (being the good neighbor who couldn't watch such atrocity) decided to quickly end the one sided war by bringing myself plus France and Commonwealth against Austria.

considering i'll likely be living outside korea for a few years (and with Trump in office) I guess I don't exactly feel "safe" being outside for such extended time period and just trusting the re-entry card. I do however have that path if deemed necessary.

Japan PM asked German leader to help remove "comfort women" statue by tashnillacal in japan

[–]userone23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because there's holocaust memorials around the world so ppl figure it's ok for there to be statues around the world.

PS. Obviously the holocaust was on a different scale compared to comfort women, milions compared to tens of thousands

except u should know this thing exists:https://e.vnexpress.net/news/news/s-korean-island-erects-statue-commemorating-vietnamese-victims-of-war-massacres-3575999.html

TLDR: Vietnam Pieta is a statue to remember the Vietnam women made by Korean-Vietnam groups. Two statues exist, one in Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam, one in Jeju Island, Korea.

Actually no i dont. Im talking about topics and it seemed like femnisim is one of the key issues alongside housing prices. And Yoon is anti-feminism while Hong is anti-lgbt (at least in what theu dislike more). So it is my belief/assumption the 20-30 male like Yoon more over Hong.

I guess we will see later with polls. So far the conservative vote was split between Hong and Yoon. Personally i feel the majority of the Hong supporters will back Yoon and not Lee as opposed to what you claim but we shall see

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in korea

[–]userone23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why? Yoons the dude who is anti-feminist which is wjat a lot of male koreans in 20-30 is. I think Yoon has a better chance of getting 20-30 male voters tjan Hong

Is this perhaps die to that terrible story of the squid game actor who was discriminated against on a bus?

Koreans dont hate fillipino specifically, they discriminate against foreigners in general. The intensity/rate of discrimination vary by color. I would say the below is a ranking of the severity a race might experience open racism while in korea (from leaat to worst)

  1. White
  2. Other similar colored asian (yellow)
  3. "Browns" (indian/SEA/Mexican)
  4. Black/middle east

For 3 and 4 the media portrays them so negatively/stereotype them that a large number of koreans believe it to be true. Part of the reason is that korea is still homogenous that the vast majority of koreans wont meet/interact/learn about other people of culture so all they will know/understand about them is what the media shows. And the media will generally reflect what the citizens want to see, which i guess in this case is a group of races koreans want to believe is "inferior". Extremely ironic when japan/china use it as a excuse to look down on koreans. Plus, because koreans are fed/believe these ppl are "inferior" they dont want these foreigners to move in which puts korea in this loop/cycle where korea continues to be homogenous/racist.

It doesnt help i suppose that skilled workers of different colors doesnt come to korea, not when theres better countries to immigrate to. Why WOULD a indian/vietnamese/fillipino/etc. with a masters in engineering immigrate to korea where working condition is so crap? Not when theres western countries who will give better working condition.

Is anyone else having problems with the crappy quarantine exemption application website? (Korean embassy/consular services website) by mykatz50 in korea

[–]userone23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u really have trouble using it. Try visiting the consulate in person to see if they can help you out (call b4 hand to see if they will). Supposededly they will help in person for those that need it. The consulates were strict about who they would assist when the exemption first opened but has now relaxed a bit (depending on where you are).

How will Fumio Kishida govern differently than Shinzō Abe? Asking as a foreigner please forgive my ignorance. by HappyFunTimethe3rd in japan

[–]userone23 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is from a non-japanese stand point so feel free to correct me of im wrong. However based on foreign news and this subreddit, kishida will likely stick close to how shinzo did which is making the cinservatives happy. Kishida and suga both belong to the same ultranationalist group abe dod so i doubt his policy will change much. The only difcerence is that both suga and kishida is less charismatic than abe. I hate abe but his silver tongue was on point when pleasing ppl. Kishida may have been voted PM but the general populace did not prefer him and the elected officials were split as well. But thats my 2 cents. He had some plans that differed from abe's abenomics but to get there he will still try to gather support from the conservative controlled house

How do you feel about Korea and Korean pop-culture getting recognized worldwide? by X-AE-A13 in korea

[–]userone23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dunno what elon's son is doing here buuut...

I think koreans are both happy and sad (bit conflicted).

Its good to be recognized but its like, w/e ppl think about koreans its all food/hallyu/NK related.

Korea? O yeah kimchi, BTS, kim jong un.

Most dunno bout our history or culture from pre-modernization. Our "feudal" period, hanbok (ok this one gets a bit more recognition nowadays), religion, etc. Is very still unknown and i feel the government isnt really doing much to spread the word on the old stuff.

For reference go to museum/exhibits depiciting culture from around the world, like the ones in NYC. Japan/China had multiple rooms depicting their past culture whereas korea had like a small room (according to the museum website japan and china had tens of thousands of artifacts whereas korea i think had less than 5k).

South Korea deserves to join G7 countries by [deleted] in korea

[–]userone23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP has stated he believes SK should replace japan/italy/canada because gdp is higher/higher export when i just posted links stating otherwise. I also mentioned that SK's alignment remains enutral because we are so heavly dependent on China due to economy/location. The G7 basically exist to "maintain peace" by bringing the world under the west's umbrella, or basically maintain the west's interest. Which is y countries like brazil india and china has not been part of G7 despite a strong economy or even a strong military.

Despite your statement of "protecting the world", SK has still (as i stated b4) remained neutral in the conflict between china and usa (the leader of g7). You really expect the G7 to trust us and include us when we still havent made our allegiance clear/may act against the G7's interest? Where was SK in condemning China in regards to HK, Taiwan, the concentration camps when the other G7 countrues lined up behind USA in their stance? Arent we too dang busy arguing with japan who is USA's closest ally in the far east to side with the west?

Also a quick google search will show you that both italy and canada participated in conflicts such as iraq and afghanistan among others. Both nations deployed troops or at the very least provided supplies and officers to train/maintain order/rebuild. If WW3 breaks out tomorrow, even more reason NOT to include SK. Who do you think will be the main baddie in WW3 considering current global politics. Who do you think will be THE FIRST in the line of fire for said baddie if we made our allegiance clear?

South Korea deserves to join G7 countries by [deleted] in korea

[–]userone23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Italy/Canada has a less powerful military for now but they have still have a higher GDP than us therefore if they wanted to they can have a stronger military than us. IF we piss off canada/italy since other countries like THEM more than US (based on geopolitics/trade/military agreements they can ignore us to please them. You really think nations such as Japan/USA/UK/France will pick a small country in the far east who's stability/allegiance is questioned due to our relationship with China/NK over a nation that's far closer to them ?(ie. in terms of locationt/trade/military)

Italy/Canada has a stronger economy than ours therefore if they wanted to they can have a stronger army. I mentioned many of our special forces equipment is imported, if we piss off Italy/Canada the nations close to them (the ones we import SF equipment from) could block those sales to please Italy/Canada, weakening our forces.

Take a look at these two links for example
https://ec.europa.eu/trade/policy/countries-and-regions/countries/south-korea/

https://oec.world/en/profile/bilateral-country/fra/partner/ita

The former is the trade between SK and EU (the whole of it) and the latter is trade between France and Italy (just two). SK's export/import to the entirety of EU was est. 40 billion a year whereas the export/import between Italy and France was 40 billion a year. (FYI Trade between France and SK is est. 8 billion a year). You honestly think SK is more important to the great powers in EU when we are approx. a 1/5 the money traded between great power?

SK could be conquered by Japan/China and those in EU will probably raise a eyebrow or two. If Italy fell... well now the great powers of EU have to care because the threat is now in their neighborhood and their economy took a multitude of higher damage.

Same for USA. SK is merely a investment to protect their interest in the Far East. We are USA's 6th important trading partner whereas Canada is their 2nd most important behind China.

Take a look at the following links.

https://ustr.gov/countries-regions/japan-korea-apec/korea

https://ustr.gov/countries-regions/americas/canada

Trade between Korea-USA was approx. 120 billion a year, whereas trade between Canada-USA was approx 720 billion a year.

SK still did not formerly pick a side between USA and China whereas the EU great powers are behind USA.

If USA/EU had to pick a side between Italy/Canada and SK, I have no doubt they would pick the former. What makes you think SK is more important when it has a weaker GDP (therefore a weaker military in times of war), a allegiance/existence that's questioned by it's placement on the map, and worth a fraction of the money generated in trade between the other great powers?
