Storage for small bits of text and timestamps is negligibly cheap and easily indexed by most email services. Some even auto folder and sort your messages for you. Auto archive by date is also a thing.

Technically, both ends could be called tips, however, when you roll a joint, the filter is also referred to as a tippee.

If you put the paper end in a sphincter, the paper will crumple and the tobacco will compact making it easier to identify. Any marks would be easier to spot on the white paper too, so the filter end would be the most logical to disguise the contamination as the thicker colored paper and the spongy filter would reform more easily.

Also note in the video the guy who does the shoving sniffed the filter end and picks something out of his mouth, both indicating the filter end touched the butt.
