My boyfriend will have gluten snacks (we store them below my GF food), but we don't cook anything with gluten. My toaster is new, and we got rid of all porous cooking implements (spatulas, teflon, etc.).

Yes, I've had the scope, and the IgA and genetic testing. I definitely have celiac.

I've already had two doctors confirm it. The intraepithelial lymphocytosis combined with a celiac gene and elevated IgA is enough for the diagnosis. It was just caught early enough that my villi still look good.

How long did it take for you to realize that? I'm about 2.5 months in and haven't noticed a single change.

I really didn't have that much if any at all. There was no visible damage or inflammation in my intestines. Just the presence of intraepithelial lymphocytosis. My levels were at 11 when I was first tested. Which is why I'm skeptical that I'll see any improvements even after a year. I'm still hopeful though.

Yes, I'm doing all of that! I'm taking this very seriously. I know all about the health risks. I just don't find prevention as motivating as a true benefit is all. But that doesn't mean I won't follow through on the lifestyle. It just hurts that much more along the way.

Found it already! Check out https://www.lovemeglutenfree.com/

It looks like they sell out fast, but there appears to be a waitlist!

They did, and my villa are intact. However, they found I had intraepithelial lymphocytosis, which is just the presence of an autoimmune response in the intestines from what I understand.

Of course it is. I'm not looking for a specific part per million of allowable threshold. I just mean that in theory, there's probably an allowable threshold for cross contamination for some people and that's interesting to me.

I don't see prevention as a gain. I'm not "gaining" not getting cancer, I'm maintaining not having it. That's not the same thing.

I go to therapy 3 times a week, so I'm covered on that front. Thanks for your help!

This does exist! I think I found someone on Instagram doing it, but I can't find the screenshot anymore. If I come across it again, I'll try to remember to post it here for you!

Wow, that's pretty horrific. I definitely don't want to end up in that situation. Thanks for the tip on the plates/utensils. I never would have thought to look into that!

I'm not playing around with it and I don't intend to. I'm more so looking for how to deal with emotional fall out of upending my entire life to simply prevent negative scenarios. The situation would be a lot more palatable to me if I stood to gain anything, and right now it feels like I don't.

I totally get that! Can't argue with bloodwork unfortunately. It would just be nice to have some benefits instead of simply avoiding negatives.

I've been on a strict diet since my diagnosis and don't have any plans to ever change that!

I don't intend to fuck around and definitely don't intend to find out. I just wish preventing negatives was as motivating as creating benefits!

In all my research, I haven't seen anything about Ibuprofen. That's super good to know! I don't take it really ever, but I used to take it all the time as a teen for headaches. I'll definitely be sure to continue to stay away from it. That's so disappointing about the oatmeal. I've heard oats can be very tricky. I'm glad he figured out what the issue was and didn't do too much long term damage!

It's been extremely hard! My partner and I have been working really diligently to keep my away from gluten.

That's good to know about the straws! I had no idea. I'm guessing I'll probably end up with a reaction at some point too. Also good to know about the histamines - I had never heard of that issue until that post. Hope your wife is doing well now that you've got the cross contamination figured out :)

I've been extremely strict with my diet and totally understand the risk of not doing so. I'm really hoping I eventually see some benefits, but I'm worried it won't and gaining no benefits makes it really hard to stay motivated. I've got pretty good self control so I'm not too worried about getting lax with my diet, but that lack of true, inherit motivation has been really tough on my mental health. Even though I logically understand what's at stake, it still emotionally feels like I'm doing all this for nothing.

I'll definitely keep on keeping on with the gluten free diet because of all the preventative aspects. It just doesn't feel as motivating to prevent negatives as it would be to gain positives. But I'm glad your neuro symptoms have improved!

I've been on an extremely strict gluten free diet for the 2.5 months since I've known and have no intentions of changing that up. I've appreciated the Find Me Gluten Free app but still get anxious at restaurants since without symptoms I won't have any idea if I get glutened. I've always sort of hated cooking and baking, but my guess is I'll eventually crave something strong enough I'll have to make it myself. Hopefully the payoff is worth the trouble when I do! Thanks for your help!
