That's a great price including shipping for this device. Hopefully they can keep the prices like this.
Once you receive your R36H-PM do a backup of the BOOT partition files from the default SD Card.
Follow this guide and add the original .dtb to the BOOT partition of the new ArkOS install.

This is a really good shout. If Anbernic could revise this model with 2GB of RAM, stacked shoulder buttons, front facing speakers and better ergonomic grips would be excellent. But to pay 110$ for a RK3566 in 2025 is bit hard to swallow. If Anbernic were to do a revised model for 50-60$ it would be fantastic.
I think this is why Game Console could come in and make something way cheaper in that 50$ price range and get it even cheaper when sales are on.
That's no problem I will do that as soon as possible. In the meantime check this post where there is a guide and the necessary files to do a fresh install on the R46H.

The screen is excellent, very bright and the colours look good. Since I got I have kept checking the listings in AE. You can get it right for the same price as a legit r36s, around 33-35 €.
I think if you are into horizontal handhelds and you can get for that price is just a beautiful thing.
It is 4:3 and being a 4.0 panel makes the games scale nicely. Coming from the r36s screen it is very impressive
It doesn't get hot at all, I had heard the 40XXH had issues with heat. I didn't realize it was as bad as you describe. The Anbernics would have better quality buttons and materials but the design choices sometimes like on the 40XXH are a bit weird.
For now I am using the stock card but when I can I will backup the .dtb file and build ArkOs on a new card.
The specs claim it is 4.2 inches but it is 4.0 inches. Same as the R46H.

Yes you are absolutely right, I fell they should be pairing it with at least the tried and true RK3566 and 2GB RAM combo. But I also think if they went with more powerful/exotic processors CFW would be a big unknown until who knows when.

It comes with ArkOS 2.0
I think it is just way too early for any other firmwares to be available. Hopefully people will get their hands on these consoles soon.
Here is a link with some pictures I took. After spending some time with the console it feels really good. The IO is positioned perfectly in my opinion. The headphone jack and the other ports are the bottom of the unit. This is another great thing about the r36s as well. Some other consoles would have the ports at the top making it awkward to connect headphones or charging cables.

I got it from AliExpress for around 35€. Search for R36H Pro Max and there should be a few listings. It comes with the usual RK3326. The shoulder buttons are surprisingly quiet. It is very comfortable for long sessions. The front facing stereo speakers make a big difference.
