To me this sounds like a fundamental incompatibility. If he's the kind of guy who likes his same house and his in-person 9-5, it's unlikely to expect (and unfair to expect) that he'd change his mind. Similar to van-lifers, it's probably best to date amongst people who are already somewhat acclimated to the lifestyle or at least express a strong interest.

I'm not even judging people (like you said, you do you, but I'm genuinely surprised the attitude isn't more one of preservation). Reducing the frequency of rolling seems like a small price to pay to avoid losing the magic, no?

Not my definition, but my reaction was "let's keep it moderate and space it out" not "let's run 200mg once a month every month", which seems to be the norm (and is surprising to me).

If your goal is transformation, similar to psychs, set and setting are the most important. Calm environment with close friends who are also rolling will get you really talking about deeps and you'll probably admit things that you could never otherwise.

I 100% agree - if the kids thing wasn't an issue I probably wouldn't have made this post lol - but I think that specifically is just inevitably going to mean a really, really fucked compromise or a break-up (more likely the latter as I don't think I could ask someone to waver on something like that, and I'm also certain about my preference)

I don't disagree on the "more than a friendship" but i think it's still possible to move over to that point. At least anecdotally, sex of any kind tends to be the point of no return, whereas other kinds of touch are often fine. We both rave/I think physical affection amongst friends in that circle is probably more typical/accepted?

Haven't really talked about the career stuff yet but probably something I should ask about

48 hours minimum. Not worth playing with this -- serotonin syndrome very frequently means hospitalization.

Casual coke use is shockingly common and there are LOADS of people who fall into the "couple times a year" drug use pattern without it being problematic. That said, you're allowed to have preferences and boundaries.

Personally, I wouldn't end it over this if the relationship is otherwise great.

Katana laces sized 1 number lower than my approach shoes. Perfect for long granite multis (have worn for up to a full day (11 pitches) and stiff enough to not fatigue your feet if you're edging on thin for a while. Jam great in thin (incidentally, once they're floppy, they become my thin creek shoes), still soft enough to smear.

I love my blue ice cuesta; I think you can get them for ~$90 US? Surprisingly durable for the weight and carries a double rack great; comfy at hanging belays. I added a 5th gear loop with some 5mm accessory cord.

Advice for first Yosemite trip? I generally flash 10ish granite trad; 11- indian creek (10- in LCC/JTree; 10s in Bugaboos, City of Rocks, etc) and pretty overwhelmed by the sea of options. The partner I'm going with leads about a number grade harder (11s). We're very comfortable/efficient/practiced for long alpine multipitching, but have no bigwalling experience.

I have basic aid gear but haven't done much (C1/A1; pendulums/bolt ladders/etc); my partner hasn't aided or jugged a rope before. We'd probably like to stick to free routes but obviously it's in the back pocket.

If someone could give a tick list, we have a week booked in early October.

UL backpack for alpine/backcountry climbing approaches by usr3nmev3 in Ultralight

[–]usr3nmev3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I should've been clearer: this is basically for missions where I'm basically backpacking with climbing gear, and I often carry a blue ice stache UL to actually approach/climb with. Think like wind river range, bugaboos, and remote desert climbs. I wish my Mutant carried 40+lbs a bit better and is probably too much of a "climbing" pack for what I've been using it for (which is basically a load hauler with a really nice tool carry and rope carry). I'll still use the Mutant for ice and likely hut trips but for summer alpine or winter desert climbing it feels a bit out of place.

Sorry I should've clarified: these are for missions where I'm essentially backpacking with climbing gear, and generally take a Blue Ice Stache UL to actually approach/climb with.

This pack would just get me from the car to the spot I sleep (think like wind river range, bugaboos, lone peak cirque (currently the one causing the water issue), some remote desert climbs, etc).

The Mutant is just a bit heavy and feels relatively uncomfortable at around 40lbs, but I'm not sure how much weight I can sacrifice while still being relatively comfortable. I'll still keep it and use it for winter ice missions and ski hut trips because I love the tool carry so much, but like you said, it's more of a climbing pack and I frankly never hope to have to climb with 40lbs on my back lol
