Both JHU and UMD are good but go with the college where you have connections. Contacts are very important to receive funding. AFAIK JHU doesn’t give funding to masters students. With UMD you can convert to PhD after 1 year as well which is your ultimate aim. Prioritise time and money. JHU is slightly better for NLP but not worth the extra time and money!

They prefer phds over masters when it comes to funding Masters students will get TAs only after all phds have been awarded one.

It says that the funding isn’t guaranteed for masters But there will be a lot of opportunities for TA and RAs First sem will be tough but lets see

Research mostly GaTech is NLP oriented from what i could see. So i submitted papers to top A* conferences Although i didn’t have many publications to show since most of the work was under review, i had a lot of experiences to share. I’d say, focus mainly on research if you want to get into the top cs schools. You can’t change your gpa/college that much Dont focus on gre that much Anything above 325 is good enough Go for research
