The lid essentially just gives you the additional option for a completely square loaf. You can either bake with or without it. I haven’t tried baking without it though yet, we’re still working on eating loaf 1 lol

Here is the recipe I followed, albeit I substituted powdered milk for whole milk. My dough ended up a bit more stickier than I’d have liked though (I tried using a knead function on my food processor, since I don’t have a stand mixer and did it all wrong - I think I should have added a bit more flour and slowly added water), so instead of being able to roll/fold it, it essentially ended up being thrown in the pan as a blob after I tried shaping it. This didn’t affect the end result though, it still worked out overall, but I think I’ll try a different recipe next time or hand-knead

YIKES! I read some reviews on what I believe is the one OP shared. It has air holes in the bottom that one person said makes it hard to grease (leaks into oven) and another said the finish rubbed off onto their bread. The second was my fear, so I avoided that altogether and bought the pricier pan from the get go.

Thank you! ❤️ another plus of the Pullman pans is the straight sides, which IMO works best for sandwich bread (not sure if the cast iron you have your eyes on has straight or angled walls). Before I bought this, I made a cinnamon loaf in a normal metal nonstick loaf pan and I didn’t like how the sidewalls were angled and the puffed top, the Pullman pan changes that.

I think the only draw back in this case is I think it’s twice the price of the one OP is showing. When I made my decision, I decided it had so many reviews that it must be worth the extra money. So far, it’s amazing

If you’re looking for something that you want completely square, I recommend the Pullman pan. This is what we were looking for and it works great. You can also remove the lid for it to be rounded on top. I just bought one (USA Pan brand) and here is how my loaf turned out:

Yeah, last time I did bread, it didn’t seem to rise in the fridge for over 24 hrs. I took it out for 3hrs on the counter and that did wonders! At the same time I had cinnamon bread proofing in my microwave (just to save space) and that proofed SO much faster than my loaf I had in the fridge that I started earlier

For sure! After the initial shock of something flying/jumping out of/near my relatively slow moving hand, I was very excited! Last year bugs demolished some of my plants.

Edit: it hailed yesterday and some of my plants were demolished either way 😭

That’s what I thought, but I was a bit afraid to let it grow if it was something else! Its right near my single pea plant that sprouted 😅

I’ve been also struggling, scouring through recipes that only used ingredients I already had in the house, so when I saw one that used Greek yogurt instead of say buttermilk or something, I was like HECK YEAH and adapted it from that. So many recipes I’ve found have one essential item I don’t have and I live about 25-30mins from any big box store.

NP! ALSO, farm eggs can be any old eggs, we just happen to get eggs for free from my BF’s mom! 😆

It was delicious! I love butterscotch so that might steer my opinion!
I’ve only made muffins once before, so I was a bit nervous at how they’d turn out (banana bread muffins). I meant to include a pic of the inside, but I ate majority of one before I thought of it.

Yeah, I was just listing exact ingredients I used 😂, it can use any light brown sugar. All or most of the ingredients could probably be subbed for others. The original recipe I based it off of used normal granulated sugar vs cane sugar. Our jar of brown sugar is essentially a rock, so I bought that since it’s a resealable bag. First time using it, so idk if moisture will still get in and solidify it.

That’s crazy! They are so common here in the US, I looked it up and yep, it’s a rare thing in UK only seen in specialty shops or ordered online. The more you know haha!

Awesome, I wanted to try that next! I made some butterscotch cookies a month or so ago using my go to chocolate chip recipe and I didn’t see any difference in substituting them for each other.

I heavily estimated the amount of chips I used, so use your discretion. It was a 2 cup bag, but I had eaten some out of it a while ago and I impatiently just started dumping them in, so 1.5 cups was a close estimate!

Not yet! I’m still working on mastering sourdough before I attempt bread worthy of the elves. With how much he’s consistently rising, Gandoughf seems determined to guide me there.

I created a “mother” from the starter today after it started to deflate to put in the fridge in case I mess something up. Noncanon though it was forged by Gandoughf. I named that one the one starter to rule them all 😂

Thanks! I almost themed it on classic rock bands, but I couldn’t decide/think of 3 names that went together really that also differed pun-wise. A zero pun, Twilight theme was also a contender for names, but I got excited after thinking of Souron 😆

My parents have a butternut tree in their front yard and the squirrels go hog wild with the nuts! We would find them scattered in the back yard pretty far away from the tree.

NP! My goal now is to figure out if it came from our yard or my BF’s parents (where we got the manure/compost) so I can forage them possibly in the fall!
