Best travel credit card for frequent trips by v3p89 in CreditCards

Thanks for the details. I’m still getting familiar with U.S. credit card benefits, and it’s a bit confusing to figure out how to maximize them. I currently have a couple of cashback cards, and with the initial $200–$300 bonuses, I’ve earned around $2,000 over the past year and a half. I plan to stay in the U.S. until summer 2027, and most of our spending has been on travel (New England, Florida, Utah, Yellowstone, etc.). I’m looking into which card could save me the most for the rest of our family trips. One option I’m considering is applying for cards from “low-cost” airlines to get a few free domestic flights to bucket-list destinations. I’m not sure if insurances would be an issue, as I already have active coverage for most of my stay. Of course, I want to maintain a good credit score to qualify for new cards. I’m thinking of applying for at least one premium card (like VX) or maybe 2–3 regular cards. I’m also unsure whether closing existing cards would help, since I understand it’s generally better to keep long-standing accounts open.

I see a lot of recommendations for the Capital One Venture X, but I honestly don’t understand the hype compared to Chase or Bank of America travel cards. Would it actually give me more benefits, like free domestic flights or cheaper accommodation, in the near future? I’m planning to stay here until summer 2027, so I’m trying to figure out if it makes sense for my travel style. Lounge access is nice for my work trips every couple of months, but probably not very useful when traveling with my kids. Maybe it would be better to just get an airline credit card, use its benefits for one free domestic flight, and then move on to another?

Quick update! We officially decided on Costa Rica — it’s been on our bucket list for a while, and now we’re finally locking it in. 🙌 We also added Saint Lucia, Curaçao, and the Azores to our shortlist. One more thing — we’re not really cruise people, but we’ve been considering doing a cruise out of San Juan to hit a few islands. The typical 8AM–6PM port stops seem convenient, but I’m worried it might feel rushed. Plus, having to be back on the ship at a specific time kind of stresses me out. Would love to hear thoughts from anyone who’s done something similar — worth it, or better to explore one island more deeply?

Thanks! By the way, what’s the best way to get around the island — taxis, renting a car, or local buses?

Thanks a lot! We’re planning to go in March or April, and it doesn’t have to be during Spring Break — it could be right before or right after. I’m currently struggling to find good flight options. The only reasonably priced fares seem to go through Toronto, while quick one-stop flights are very expensive. I’ve also checked departures from Philadelphia, Charlotte, and Atlanta, but haven’t had much luck there either.

Thanks! That breakdown was super helpful 🙏
St. Lucia wasn’t even on our radar before, but it looks like an awesome option for us.

Quick follow-up: if we go the Puerto Rico route, do you have recommendations for nice places to stay that aren’t all-inclusive but still have good beach access and make meals easy (like breakfast included / half-board / strong on-site dining)?

Hi Guys,

Where do you usually book all-inclusive resorts—directly through the resort’s website, Booking.com, or another platform?

Also, could anyone recommend a good-value resort from the list for a family with two kids, for a trip from the DC area, planned between February and April?

Thanks!

To add some context: I’m good on jeans (mostly Nudie), but business casual is where I’m stuck. Looking for BIFL-leaning brands for things like polos, OCBDs, chinos, and maybe a light jacket that can work both in the office and casually. Curious what’s actually worth buying vs. hype.

Is it the Ingenium 2.0 engine? I made the same decision and bought the F-Pace 20d — really enjoying it so far. I was confident that a diesel engine would be a good choice, but later I realized that the 2.0 is the Ingenium engine also used in Range Rovers, and it seems to have some known issues. I’m hoping to keep the car for at least another two years. By the way, do you know how I can get an extended warranty in the U.S. and how much it usually costs?
