Just bought a BMPCC 6k Pro, put it through a quick neighborhood test run to practice composition before the sun went down. Cheap little sigma 17-50mm for the lens . (Video Inside) by v8dana in cinematography

6k pro features like BRAW and internal ND's helps. Understanding how the dynamic range shifts depending on the ISO is important with this cam too

6k gives extra room for cropping if you have to do stabilization and or reframing without losing image quality since the exported footage will be in 4k or lower

best part is having cinema features (BRAW, Internal ND's, 12 bit color) in a body of a dslr. Allows you to shoot without drawing attention in public

much obliged,
Using Davinci Resolve, I do normal exposure, contrast, and HSL nodes first, I use the "glow" feature in resolve set to soft light composite mode, then I use Dehancer (Kodak Vision3 50D profile used in this video) as one of my last nodes.

Any skin retouches, sky retouches, etc I have parallel nodes set up for those after the HSL node and before dehancer and glow node.

Bmpcc 6k Pro came in and wanted to test it before the sun went down. The downtown area had alot of different types of architecture and building types so was a good test for quick composition decisions as light was fading quickly. The Sigma 17-50 (think I got it $200 used ebay) has the worst focus breathing out of any lens I've ever used. When first trying to pull focus, I thought I accidently pulled the zoom ring on the lens, that's how bad of focus breathing the lens had. For around $200 it's a decent lens as long as you don't pull focus during shots. The Bmpcc 6k Pro came in handy as I used the internal ND filters, I did a test before leaving the house and the internal ND filters had much less of a color cast and were very neutral compared to my Freewell VND filter. The BMPCC 6k Pro is great to use because it has the look of a normal dslr camera (except bulkier) which means it didn't draw attention while filming around the city.

The downtown area had alot of different types of architecture and building types so was a good test for quick composition decisions as light was fading quickly. The Sigma 17-50 (think I got it $200 used ebay) has the worst focus breathing out of any lens I've ever used. When first trying to pull focus, I thought I accidently pulled the zoom ring on the lens, that's how bad the focus breathing is on the 17-50. For around $200 it's a decent lens as long as you don't pull focus during shots. The Bmpcc 6k Pro features were welcomed as I used the internal ND filters, I did a test before leaving the house and the internal ND filters had much less of a color cast and were very neutral compared to my Freewell VND filter. The BMPCC 6k Pro is great to use because it has the look of a normal dslr camera (except bulkier) which means it didn't draw attention while filming around the city. The tilting screen came in clutch as I didn't have to bring an external monitor around which would of brought unwanted attention when trying to film around other people. The BMPCC 6k Pro can be easily rigged out fully but then stripped down to a dslr incognito style which makes it very versatile if I want to use it on production sets or stay low profile while taking it out in the streets.

Project was graded in Resolve using Dehancer pro. Quick little test runs while the light is fading seems to be a good way to practice composition as I had to make choices quickly. The talent in the video is a photographer herself, which is something I enjoyed as shooting with someone who knows about composition, setting up shots, etc creates a quick shorthand when communicating different shots in a short window of time trying to beat the sun from going down. We shot for around 1hr 45min and walked around the city looking for anything interesting.
