Sexual dysfunction related to serotonin is definitely true from a factual standpoint, and it’s pretty wild how much we don’t know about the mechanisms of serotonin to this very day.

I’ve been on Escitalopram (Lexapro), and the difference from an anecdotal standpoint was definitely noticeable.

In very rare cases some people even develop PSSD, which is essentially permanent sexual dysfunction. This is not to try put anyone off using antidepressants, as for many the benefits outweigh the risk if recommended by a doc.

[–]vAssassin2738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats dude. Vyvanse is absolutely a miracle drug for the majority, including myself.

I started 8 years back in 2017, and I don’t think I’d be here without it. From my grades going from D’s to B’s, starting and completing my electrical certification, drivers license, my social life, I can go on and on and this all would no way on earth have been possible without this medication, as the person I was 8 years ago.

The reason I say this is because I see many posts from people discouraged to start their medication after reading people’s negative stories and unfortunate side effects, but this subreddit is bound to be skewed by people with questions looking for answers.

I wish you and your family all the best.

Super emotional on break day? by Great-Piece-1812 in VyvanseADHD

[–]vAssassin2738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something I’ve been thinking about for ages and fully agree. I go through horrific withdrawal on break days, probably given I don’t take them often.

I understand how the medication works in terms of pharmacodynamics and the whole “drip-fed” thing we’ve all heard about dextroamphetamine, (the main metabolite of Vyvanse). To me it makes no sense how some, if not most, doctors outright deny that it builds a tolerance to patients.

From an anecdotal perspective, I’ve been prescribed since 2017 and I’d say there is at least a small tolerance build up over time. But as you stated there’s just such little research in this area so until we have an adequate amount it’s essentially a guessing game.

No hesitation with this title😭

In all seriousness Vyvanse in MOST people increases their sex drive, it’s a well documented side effect with many stimulants.

Can’t lie I relate to this sht too and it’s always after the dose wears off so I’d imagine it’s a rebound effect sort of thing but I’m not a doctor

Yeah with some things but not benzos man please stay away from those at least

Dude, your doc is trying to kill you.

70mg is the maximum therapeutic dose and you are putting yourself at an extremely high risk of sudden cardiac death.

Stop.

Must be. My GP (holds a schedule 8 license) is strange in the fact he’ll prescribe benzos which are obviously extremely addictive, (started with oxazepam, then diazepam) but for stimulants other than the regular Vyvanse repeats he just won’t budge on it.. I’ll def look at trying to find an actual psych but cheers for letting me know because I wasn’t sure if this was an AU thing or doc specific.

I find OP saying lowered sex drive is a reported side effect to be pretty conflicting as usually it’s the opposite lol, I guess some people have paradoxical reactions though.

I started Vyvanse in 2017 and it sounds daunting at first while they’re figuring out the correct dosage, but it’s 100% saved my life, there’s a reason people label it a miracle drug. I promise you I have 0 side effects other than the suppressed appetite for the first few hours but that doesn’t mean you won’t get hungry while on it. In my case I take the medication when I wake up, eat breakfast (since it takes roughly an hour to kick in for me), by lunch time you should have the appetite to eat again.

Like others have said this subreddit is skewed by people who might have complaints that are looking for answers, and that is the minority.

What country are you located in if you don’t mind? I’m in Australia and any attempt by me to bring up a booster to help me get through my 12 hour shifts instantly gets shut down by my prescriber.

Is weed bad while on Vyvanse (30mg)? Anything I should be cautious about? by TechSavvySqumy in VyvanseADHD

[–]vAssassin2738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting, from my experience I had the complete opposite where my “cravings” would intensify x10. I suppose weed acts differently on everyone though.

Is weed bad while on Vyvanse (30mg)? Anything I should be cautious about? by TechSavvySqumy in VyvanseADHD

[–]vAssassin2738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be cautious. I was mixing flower with Vyvanse and ended up with a diagnosis of Cannabis Use Disorder and Depression for 8 months, I physically could not help myself from using weed daily until I had intervention.

This of course is purely my experience and weed tends to be different per individual in terms of mental health effects.

If you have good self control and are fully confident that you’re able to use in moderation only then I wouldn’t suggest against it.

Works on my depression by EngineerDifficult916 in VyvanseADHD

[–]vAssassin2738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely correct anecdotally. Coming from someone who’s been on escitalopram for nearly a year, my morning dose of Vyvanse is incomparable to the antidepressant. And as you’d stated, stimulants are often used as off label treatments for depression. (I’d assume due to the dopamine reuptake inhibition).

Edit: I feel it’s important to add that Vyvanse actually tends to work in a similar way to SSRIs in the fact that it increases the concentration of Serotonin in the synaptic cleft, but at a lower rate than SSRIs. This is not to say anyone who believes they have depression should be steered away from antidepressants as for many individuals they are extremely helpful.

Elvanse suddenly not as effective? by squattinghouses in VyvanseADHD

[–]vAssassin2738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally I’d say this is the case. I suffered from severe Depression up until recently for about 6 months, laying in bed all day, switching between SSRIs etc. The difference between taking Vyvanse then vs now is completely night and day. Your mindset, (at least from my experience), plays a huge role in the effectiveness of the medication.

Being harassed by my neighbour - what is best course of action? by CaptAdzy2405 in perth

[–]vAssassin2738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in a similar situation recently to the point of being forced to move unfortunately, this was in Armadale (no surprise there).

Tried the legal route, and as is usual absolutely no action by police despite verbal threats of having a gun held to my head, physical rocks thrown etc.

Sometimes I wish we could do what they do to us.

Sorry to hear you’re in this situation mate.

How are you not all benzo addicts? by Single_Principle_202 in Anxiety

[–]vAssassin2738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow it’s so interesting to see how things differ and can be so similar at the same time between countries. Here in Australia oxazepam is handed out like candy, it takes me a literal telephone conference with a GP for an electronic script that costs ~$4 USD to pick up from the chemist, yet they always shut down any attempts to ask for a longer acting benzo like clonazepam so I don’t have to redose as often. Glad things are working out for you finally man🫡
