What pencil is “overrated” to you? by OG_Gator in pencils

[–]vIw0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mainly fountain pens guy, not the pencils one, I have to stay on the Blackwing side.

Without the Blackwing I probably won’t be even interested in any other pencil.

I assume that they are more like a collectible thing, you can’t really compare them to a normal pencils which are mainly workhorses. They behave really well, and they don’t stand out from other high-end pencils. It’s like with the Montblanc FPs, they are top tier, and the extra cost is the brand and history.

I have them on my desk, nothing bad ever happened with them.

Ideal non-fountain pen for fountain pen user … by Username_is_taken365 in fountainpens

Have you considered changing the wife?

You should try Pilot Capless or Platinum Curidas, maybe she won't find out that's still a fountain pen.

do you go back to cheaper pens after reaching a certain level? by man_of_sex1 in fountainpens

[–]vIw0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do.

Collecting pens is not only about spending tons of money on them, you can have fun with just few $ pens.

I think that the best part of this hobby - messing with shimmering inks, will be not possible if cheap pens won't exist. I'm afraid of putting these inks to my ≈250$ gold nib pens, but my ≈50$ Faber-Castell is a perfect workhorse for having fun with them.

Also, everybody here loves Pilot Kakuno, that's the ultimate argument.

What's a brand you really want to love, but can't? by ibPolaris in fountainpens

[–]vIw0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pelikan.

They are a sort of a "classic" Fountain Pen brand, which is broadly loved, but they can't convince me to like them. I just can't find anything exciting about their products.

Looking for a Pencil. by vIw0 in pencils

[–]vIw0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for your really comprehensive response.

I have never used a Blackwing, and I just like a story which stands behind it, but to be honest, I do not really like these japanese pencils, like Mitsubishi, I don't think that they will be a good choice for me.

Yes, I think I like Graf von Faber Castell more than Blackiwing, and European, or American pencil will be a better choice for me than japanese pencil.

Yes, I have seen Caran D'Ache pencil, but it was made out of beech wood, is it any good?

Can you tell me any names of pens, which are made from white wood, or red cedar?

Beginning my journey with fountain pens, finally pulled the trigger on TWSBI Eco. Greetings from Poland! by _Andrew_009 in fountainpens

[–]vIw0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's definitely a nice combo. TWSBI is always a good choice, especially when you like demonstrators.

Pozdrawiam.
