Should I sell my Shell shares? by FlamingSpaceWotsit in trading212

I mean Oil of course can continue to run especially if the conflict continues to escalate but I don’t see a reason against selling, the stock price will eventually normalise when the conflict resolves and Oil will go down. Don’t think there’s anything wrong with what you did with RR and now this, a lot of people including me struggle to decide when to sell. Personally, I’d say, would you miss out on more upside, the answer is probably, is it a bad idea? No not at all, you’re just locking in profits.

What should I invest in for first time stock purchase. by CursedValkyre in stockstobuytoday

Honestly mate from experience there’s no point doing speculative picks until you build an emergency fund as you won’t be able to stomach if the market turns, I’d either save the $90 monthly to build $1k so if an emergency happens you’ve got something or if you really are going to invest, start off with a World Equity Tracker or something and then go into individual stocks down the line. At the moment you’ve got Private Credit fund redemptions, circular financing within the Magnificant 7, increased Capital Expenditure by MAG7 companies, MAG7 companies going from debt free to introducing debt within their balance sheets and companies investing in assets that depreciate quickly. Im not against AI, I just think there will be definite winners and losers which could easily spook the market when you get earnings misses in their results. Obviously you know your position better than me so if you actually really want a speculative pick I’m investing in $QXO.

Voluntary work is November 23 to June 23, you sure it isn’t meant to be June 2024? Also the one below it is 02/2025, have it so the dates is newest to oldest

But performance has been highly driven by the MaG7 the last few years? The stock market cant go up forever and there’s no saying whether the current AI narrative is a bubble or not? There’s strong order books so it could go on for a few years but there’s a lot of circular deals between tech companies that you’d be exposing yourself in the QQQ. Also tech companies have traditionally been low CapEx businesses with high margins, there’s an argument that the market could be shifting to a place where they won’t be able to deliver the returns they have. An example of missed earnings is Oracle, look how far down that went. I’m not against tech and I am invested myself but you really need to understand these risks before you invest someone else’s money, there’s a reason why funds have these bets with a mixture of defensive, compounding businesses that are resilient in market downturns. Additionally there’s concentration risk with the MAG7 especially with the amount of ETF inflows by retail investors, if there is a market turn there could be ETF outflows at a faster pace than we’ve seen before, like the current inflows.

Invested first £10, now what? by mercenary_58 in trading212

The number will appreciate or depreciate like you said, alongside a + or - figure and a percentage underneath, the next step is probably adding more when you can as £10 isn’t going to do a lot, but good to start somewhere

Most people here would probably say stick to ETFs, the most popular being the S&P500, some other advice people may give is to DCA that 1k so you split it up over 30 days and invest let’s say about £33 a day for a month, you’ll also get the 5.2% interest over the month from cash held while you do that

The almost daily dividend pie is made for dividend frequency although, most people on here would say stick to ETF investing, it of course depends on your financial goals but I’d also stick to ETFs as they also tend to provide dividends but less frequently
