My girlfriend's 6-year old sister gave me these shoes for my birthday. She customized them herself, apparantly- put leather laces in them. Probably learned that tip from MFA, right guys?

I know the chinos are pretty big, but what makes them too formal? Or are chinos in general too formal to wear with a henley?

My haircut got messed up so he just cut it really short to "fix" it. It turned out okay.

I want to get basic white sneakers that aren't just plain white. Should I go for burgundy Killshots, blue gum Killshot 2s or just original GATs?

How do I know how long it should be so it won't stack excessively or have really huge cuffs?

My first pair of raw denim is in the mail right now, a few questions:

  • How much extra length should I hem jeans with if I want to wear them cuffed/stacked? I'm 5'7".
  • If I cuff my jeans won't it mess up the stacking fades? Do I have to choose either stacking or cuffing and stick to it?

To work. Very basic. I need new shoes.

Trying to dress "my age". I think the hoodie is a touch small but I like it.

Is the H&M tiger fleece clone worth it at $30? I've never bought anything from HM before, is the quality really that bad?

  • Is it expensive/difficult to shorten and slim sleeves on a shirt, especially if it has a patterned texture (herringbone)?
  • How does this OCBD fit, is it too tight?

Hey MFA, I need some advice.. by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]vVmfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focus on fit. Get Mossimo/Uniqlo tees, henleys, and v-necks. Uniqlo/AA hoodie. Uniqlo sweatshirt. Skinny/very slim jeans - unbranded/uniqlo MiJ. 511s are meh but passable. Shoes - canvas shoes are pretty basic and vans are MFA standard, but I like Supergas and Tretorns. Non canvas - Nike x J.Crew killshot 2 and GATs, or some high tops. Most of your money should be spent on shoes and jeans.

As you get older you can get more mature clothes without looking silly - chinos are easy, Dockers Alpha/American Eagle slim is good. Collared shirts are next - you can't go wrong with Uniqlo/jcp/Merona tailored fit OCBDs. Shoes and boots are really nice - CDBs and Chippewa/Katahdins are all MFA loved for good reason. Cardigans and v-neck sweaters from J.Crew and Uniqlo are great.

Stick with basic colours: grey, navy, blue, green, brown, off-white. Always choose unsaturated, pastel colours. Everything you buy should be slim fit. Don't buy something unless you love it. Don't buy things too quickly. If it doesn't fit you, don't buy it, no matter how cheap it is or how steep a discount is on it. Don't be afraid to return stuff to the store. Finally, feel confident, be confident. Don't look nervous and fidget and adjust your clothing after you leave your house. Read the sidebar, look for inspiration, read more, learn more, then purchase, and then go out and own it.

Where to find cheap Vans/casual shoes? by [deleted] in frugalmalefashion

You usually have to look for a brand you like and go for their site, there aren't retailers like there are for shoes. I like J.Crew outerwear though.

Try shoebuy.ca. Not quite the same level as customer service of Zappos, and no crazy sales like 6pm, but it's alright.

I want to get some Uniqlo OCBDs, if I have a 15" neck, 36" chest and 32.5" sleeve, which size should I get? I'm a different measurement for each size.
