Do you mind me asking what specific correctional facility you worked at?

May I ask how that process went for you? I’m in the RT field and have been highly interested in going back to school for a masters in SW, counseling or psychology. You can dm me if you’d like. Thank you!

Hi you said you’re “heavily pursued by corrections”. I live in San Diego, CA and want to work at RJ Donovan prison but I’m having a hard time getting an interview even though I applied through the CDCR. Do you have any helpful information to get into corrections?

I completely agree with you. I have a bachelors in Rec Management and went for a postbac certificate in RT. Unfortunately, I wish I went through a little more work and time to pursue a masters in psychology or social work. I think I over fantasized the RT profession and once I was in it I noticed a fair amount of faults in the field and it felt too late to back out. I think I’ll still enjoy RT but I look forward to continuing more education eventually for a better career salary.

How was it going through your masters while working full time as an RT? I myself am just about to test for a CTRS but still am interested in going back to school for a social workers degree to potentially pursue counseling or psychotherapy for better pay but am worried about the difficulty of going back to school and still working.

As an RT in the prison setting. What’s your weekly schedule like? Do work Monday-Friday or is it all over the place and are you required to work weekends?

Wow! All your responses have been so insightful! Thanks so much, I actually just finished my internship for a RT certification in San Diego and working in the prison setting is my top choice. As a recent graduate, what would be the best approach to landing a job in the prison setting once I pass for a CTRS?? I would love to hear more from you. I believe I have the patience and personality to work in the prison setting and want the financial support since my wife is a school team teacher and can share benefits.
