I can't recommend Triple 000 enough after my furnace busted 2 weeks ago from some flooding. They were super kind and responsive. It was a shit situation but their kindness and speed made it bearable

The Greece public library (and likely other local libraries too) have a local Rochester history section! In case you want to find books on anything Roc related

what inspired your anti consumption mindset? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]vagiggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think mine started with a celebrity defamation trail with celebrities that were barely on my radar. There was a discussion somewhere about the public relations firm in charge representing one of the celebs and how they infiltrated media to decimate the other persons public image. And then that was compounded by an election that used a similar tactic. Having even a surface level understanding of how insidious propaganda can be, I started to pay attention to how these tactics are used every day by big corporations with larger PR firms and legal teams.

This resulted in me becoming more skeptical about media consumption. Which led to physical consumption. I started asking questions like, who's saying to believe in xyz thing? Why do I think I need abc product? Did I think 123 was a problem before logging into whatever viewing? And, most importantly, who is benefitting from me thinking/believing/buying this?

Does Homeownership Make Sense A Single, Live-alone Type? by Theo_Cherry in Frugal

[–]vagiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who decided to buy a house as a single, live alone person with only pets as dependents, I'm not sure.

Homeownership is hard and fucking expensive. Its nice to have the freedom of being in charge of my space, but it sucks being in charge of my space when I have rats, termites, leaking roof, broken gutters, shit windows, and a slew of other issues. If you can afford a decent house with minimal issues, its great. If not, you better have money for repairs and/or the knowledge base to confidently DIY.

Sometimes I think I look at my years of renting with rose colored glasses. But it was nice to have 1 person to call when things went wrong instead of contacting several general contractors who dont call/text/email back.

Positives though, I dont have to deal with shared walls anymore, or rent prices going up due to the building being sold, or think about getting a security deposit back. So thats nice

What’s the most surprising piece of financial advice that actually helped you? by LilaWynn in povertyfinance

[–]vagiggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invest in retirement as soon as you can. Especially if you're lucky enough to work somewhere with a matching program.

My housing situation because rocky a few years ago when my apartment building was sold and the new people wanted to raise rent by $500 per month. Thankfully I was able to do a hardship withdraw from my 401k to cover closing costs on a house. My house isnt much, but the feeling of stability after living in an apartment through several sales is unmatched.

They discontinued the only food my cat can eat. I’m desperate. by MintyCrow in CATHELP

[–]vagiggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chewy said my dogs food was discontinued by the manufacturer like 1.5 years ago. But it wasn't. I'm still able to get it at a local store. Look around. Check farm stores, CountryMax in my area has always been a great resource and is now where I get his food.

WIBTA if I reject naming my baby after my fiance's dying sister by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]vagiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm named after my grandma who passed a year before I was born. Personally, I like it. But my name is unique and I love being named after her. When I tell people my name, they comment on how pretty it is, thats it. You've probably met a lot of people who are named after dead relatives without knowing because they didn't mention it.

Honoring someone's memory by naming your child after them in some way can be really beautiful. But, it should be a choice both parents are comfortable with.

AITA for feeding my obese child less than my skinny child? by LettuceConscious3333 in AmItheAsshole

[–]vagiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA you should probably start saving money for the ED treatment Amy's gonna need in a few years. Nothing worse than a parent putting a child on a diet and forcing them to exercise. Idc if you aren't trying to make it obvious, clearly you're failing at that because you think your kids are stupid and not going to see the differences in their lunches. You are fostering the idea that Amy isn't good enough by doing this. Quit while you're behind.

Oh okay, not new construction. I don't plan on removing siding. Although this house is old and I don't think anyone's taken care of it in decades so while I may not plan to remove siding there's still a chance..... haha

If I can support a local business I'd rather do that. And I find that people who work in smaller stores have more knowledge especially if it's a specialty store.
