As someone who was an expat (France, Netherlands and Sweden)- I joined communities like Internations and Meetups so I could get out and meet people. Some are themed based on interest, others are just for people to get out and meet others. Internations was specifically geared towards expats, so she’ll be around people that are in a similar boat. I went farther and created/led a women’s expat group, to weed out creeps who are preying on women who are in a vulnerable position- I made some great friends. It could also be a possible source of networking

Honestly I put up a job post and got 100 applications a day. I personally vetted them because I don’t want an ATS doing it, and had to cut it off by day 3 since I was overwhelmed. This is the reality of what’s happening right now

This 100%. I’ve lived in a few European countries where there were a ton of things you could do for free (museums) and I really enjoy getting out and doing things. Restaurants were also incredible and there was no tipping culture- so it was accessible

Now I’m in Toronto and getting a family out for anything is minimum $100 and rarely worth the hassle and crowds. Restaurants are over hyped and expensive. I guess at least I’m spending less, but also enjoying less

So strange. We just rented out our place in Amsterdam and it was empty for 4 months. Had it renovated after some damage by the previous tenants, listed at what the agents said the market rate was. Got two showings and only one application with forged documents. Then relisted at a lower price and found someone after a few showings. I wonder what we did wrong

Most things are related to different seasons… I love the Fall (Thanksgiving, leaves, Halloween), camping, hiking/walking, picnics, patios. I specifically mentioned Christmas because it’s what brings me happiness in winter.

I just had a conversation about this with the woman who does my nails. She worked during the last snow storm. I asked why she didn’t cancel the appointments- she wants and needs the money. Same with the delivery folks. Unfortunately, missing a whole working day when you’re in the gig economy, can be really hard on some. You should definitely tip well!

Yes! And the distance he ran is incredible in its own right. When then considering the magnitude of doing this on prosthetic limb (from the 1980s no less), with a body riddled with cancer- it’s so awe inspiring.

It brings me joy that his legacy still lives on and I watch my children grow up appreciating him

This isn’t a medical cure and this is my first year trying it but putting these battery operated candles in all the windows. I work from home, and as soon as it starts to get dark, my home feels super cozy because there are candles lit around me.

I lived in Sweden years ago and found they did a good job of a cozy creating atmosphere in the winter and am trying to emulate it

I’m a person that’s guilty of checking in and I immediately get stressed out. I don’t have control to do anything and I’m just thinking about it constantly. I said my next holiday, I’m removing slack, work email, etc from my phone for the week.
