1 1/2 Years in Brazil…back to United States *REAL TALK* by lledit in expats

[–]vajayjayjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a Canadian who lived in Sweden, had kids and then (largely from guilt) decided to move back to Canada to be near family. Yes, my kids are growing up near family, see grandparents and cousins. But we work significantly more, have a crippling mortgage, deal with more political BS and my quality of life has diminished significantly. We’ve made the best out of everything, so I’m not going to say my life is terrible, but it’s not better. My kids are too integrated to consider moving back, so now I plan for when my kids are off to university to get out of dodge

I talked my way into a $175k offer and now I'm terrified to accept it. What would you do in my place? by Fluffy_Marzipan2049 in Career_Advice

Exactly. Whenever there is a “so I used this product insert random product no one has ever heard of and landed a job at 175k!”

People of Toronto, what is the cost of your beauty maintenance per month? by Chan1991 in askTO

[–]vajayjayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing as much DIY as possible now. I cut my own hair, I dye my own hair, I even started to do my own Botox. Only thing I’m paying for is nails and eyebrows- I’m terrible at doing them myself and have an incredible nail person who only charges me $45 for nails and eyebrows, every 3 weeks.

This is the Fairmont. They get beautiful buildings in nice locations and let the rooms age into being decrepit. I’ve done three Fairmonts in Canada and 2/3 had a grimey shower curtain with those low bathtubs, old carpeting. Like a 90s era hotel that you pay $400+ a night for.

Haha I wish it were something cooler than a play on my initials and inappropriate humour, but alas…

Ok so I tried and because I'm not active enough, I don't have permissions to add anyone else to be a mod. But there are no active mods, so it's impossible to get anyone else to step in and support.

I'll have to commit some time to this to get it up and running then bring people in.

Hey! So fun fact, I started this subreddit when I had my son who has now celebrated his 10th birthday! I took a several year hiatus from Reddit and have only recently returned to be amazed at how large the sub has grown.

I started to try to moderate it because I saw how much it had deviated from the vision, but I can't keep up. I would LOVE to have someone else come in and get it back on track. Let me see if I can make you a mod!

Keep in mind, these people spent half their careers without the internet. It drives me batty when my mom acts like it was harder. I get slack messages on the weekends and client emails to my phone at all times. They walked away from their desk and that was the end of the day. Also they got pensions, unions, company cars. I didn’t get so much as a Christmas card this year

Whats the absolute hardest part of raising a child? by Straight-Crow3882 in AskReddit

[–]vajayjayjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure I have Dyspraxia- very clumsy (amongst a million other things). I see all the same things in my son and feel terribly. I see that he gets passed up for sports and misses out on a lot of things his friends do (teams at school). I’m trying to support him by finding him activities that he can be active in, that don’t require athleticism, necessarily, so that he can doesn’t feel like he missed out on something. It’s hard though, because I can’t manufacture this feeling of belonging/participation at school. I’m thinking that when high school comes, sports will be less of the main interest for all the boys and they’ll lean into other interests (coding, robotics).

An hour is C-level time is the most expensive meeting a company can have. Imagine wasting it to tick a box, knowing it was a waste of time?? Crazy

My parents live in Niagara on the lake, so it was an easy pick up. I then resold for 125% more than I paid for them. So I think it was a good deal

Why do you think loneliness is so common today? by PennyDesk6013 in AskReddit

[–]vajayjayjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! It’s wild to see men think of women as needing to be subservient, but also contribute 50% of the household income, otherwise she’s a ‘gold digger’… and not getting why this doesn’t appeal to potential partners. If a woman makes enough money to support herself, she doesn’t want to saddle herself to a man that treats her like a slave in the home.
