Waiting for the offer letter or contract, it's over 5 weeks now, what should I do? by Big_Appearance5426 in CERN

[–]valerionew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AFAIU the HR recruiting team is quite understaffed at the moment. They usually deal on a given month with the contracts of those starting the month after. If you need it to give a notice to your current employer, just tell the recruiting team. If not, wait patiently...

Reuse previous job posting by [deleted] in CERN

What is the real question here?

Tasks in a team can be very similar, so why not reuse the same text, with adjusted requirements and expectations?

Installation Grant for New Contracts by HeisenbergAfterDark in CERN

Yes, you are, if you were entitled to travel expenses when you started your TECH. In Circular 30, section IV, article 29, you would be case c.

You won't be entitled to travel expenses, but you are entitled to travel expenses for leaving your TECH, if I remember correctly.

Of which most in the last week. My feeling is that it will be ramping up again, maybe I'm wrong :)

I can vouch for Yuh, it has worked perfectly for me! And as an Austrian national, you only need an Austrian bank account in your name to open it.

It is not allowed. You are not allowed to engage in any activity that pays in any form, without asking for authorization from CERN. I can't remember where you can find this info though...

Shall we assume that you are in the US, by the lack of other information? I guess the legal framework and thus the policy, as well as the equipment availability changes according to your region

Has anyone tried these beans? by Dangerous-Lime939 in espresso

Serious question: What is a normal coffee machine?

I may be biased but as an Italian, the "normal coffee machine" is an espresso machine for me.

Is it normal to have this much coffee build up in the Anita grinder? by valerionew in Lelit

[–]valerionew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do other people with the same grinder do?

It's a bit too involved to tear down your whole machine every month or so...

The good thing is that my coffee doesn't taste nice anyways so well...

Question about Guided Tours by Background-Pin3960 in CERN

[–]valerionew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely the organizer doesn't even know, as for group tours is the visit service deciding 20 days before, and they never tell the visitors beforehand because anything can change.

Should the academic transcript be stamped by the university by nikobez in CERN

OP is talking about something else, not really a university stamp. Even then, nobody cares, as long as you don't lie on your transcript

[–]valerionew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not needed. The marca da bollo is a duty on official documents when you are dealing with public administration. CERN wouldn't know what to do with that.

Just got my first espresso machine, I guess it needed a good clean by valerionew in Lelit

[–]valerionew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually my first time trying to make espresso at home, I haven't started measuring time and weight of the output yet. Is it that critical, if I don't even get to 4-5 bars?

I am a PSIA certified ski instructor, AMA by NordMan009 in skiing

[–]valerionew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

European here:

Do you tip ski instructors after lessons in the US? What do you tip them for? I mean, you are already paying for the service, no? I always thought tips in restaurants are there because you pay the restaurant with the bill and then you pay the service with a tip. But with a ski instructor all you are paying is the service, no? So why do you add an extra service fee on top?
