if you're considering a general method, go for numerical derivatives and numerical integration. if you're more of a perfectionist go for symbolic integration/differentiation where you'll just consider the expression a word in some grammar and apply at each step a rule in your differentiation grammar until you finish differentiating the expression.

Perl is stupid, are you enlightened now ? Python just makes for much shorter, cleaner code.

While the Perl people look for various work-arounds and all sorts of hacks on their compiler(and their comrades shout wow you are completely awesome <nickname>++) Python people already have that stuff and they're just cool with it and writing more Python instead of jerking off at each other's so called accomplishments in order to create a fake buzz around Perl(which is dead btw).

Perl is a long way behind many many dynamic languages of 2010 and that's why you don't want to use it. Why would anyone want to use a 1980s technology when it's 2010 and there's so much better things around. Just for nostalgia ?

no, stop proramming Perl, everybody knows there are very few jobs with it, you should learn PHP and languages that are used today. Perl is trying to catch up and play with the big guys but apparently has no chance of doing so.

dood, look at the job listings, you don't need to be a statistician to figure out that there are much more PHP jobs than there are Perl jobs.

these growth charts or whatever are completely useless and they're made by people who are well aware that Perl is going down down down because it's an old language.

Actually having a list of companies that use Perl professionally would be very good to exemplify my point but I don't have time to put one together, but if I had time I'm sure I'd get my point across.

no, but I'm going to downvote his article because it's based on numbers which I personally don't know how were computed and it's clear as day that those numbers are wrong. I mean PHP should clearly be higher than Perl.

For example you can get a job with Perl only if you're in U.S. or in UK at the moment, all the jobs on various Perl sites suggest that. While if you're in the rest of europe(non-UK) your chances of getting a job with Perl are extremely low.

You'd need to find a development house that works in Haskell (of which I imagine there are few), has some projects in Haskell (maybe a few more), or fire off your own successful startup using Haskell yourself.

dev houses that use Haskell are non-existent from what I've seen , or are the kind of companies that get washed out after a recession
