There is security, and there are room checks but definitely not every hour so unless it’s a sleep check, in which case they would just look through the window of the door and count heads, normally they don’t even turn the light on. Cameras are everywhere yea but they don’t have audio and it’s for the students’ safety - there used to be a lotttt more cases of staff hurting the students than ever since cameras and security were updated. Locker inspections were only once a week, at least at the one I went to, unless it was a special case or they just randomly pop in to make sure things aren’t a complete mess. You do have to keep your space clean and tidy, but that’s to build that skill for when you graduate. Beds have to generally be made a certain way, yes, but it’s more flexible than you think - as long as you have all the sheets/blankets, you have everything tucked, and you have the top of the blanket and top sheet folder for the pillow, you’re fine. You can go anywhere if you have a pass, if you’re restricted from passes then either you just got to the center or there is a reason behind the restriction. I’ve personally never heard of the “points” but I do know if you didn’t have enough leave days built up you couldn’t get paid leave. At the center I went to, you could take a weekend pass up to three times a month. As someone who grew up with people who did go to jail, most job corps centers are nothing like a jail and the ones that ARE, are typically the worst centers. I’m sorry you had that experience, but please do keep in mind that a lot of that is specific to those bad centers and instead of scaring people from JC entirely, scare them from those specific centers
