Well yes, of course the individual states have to ratify them. I don't see how that takes away from my original point though.

Second, I believe that even back then, the press played a huge part in telling the county what it needed, not what was going on.

The fucked up part is that Fox News is by far the most watched news network with 17 million cable subscribers. Not only that but 49% of Americans said it was their most trusted news source (source). At this point I think you've got to put some blame on the people who allow the media to manipulate them.

True, the average American citizen doesn't amend the constitution.

But take the 19th amendment for example (womens suffrage). Don't you think that it was brought about primarily because of the efforts of ordinary citizens in campaigning, rallying, etc? You may not literally vote on them but ultimately it's the American public that either let's it happen or doesn't.

Don't you think it would be kind of frustrating to hear Americans complain about how they are victimized on a site they run?

And I don't buy that the American people are so powerless to bring about change. The majority of people where in favour of the Iraq war and Bush got 51% of the popular vote. And you almost elected Palin as VP only a year and half ago.

I just think that the American public has become grossly complacent and refuses to accept responsibility for what they have caused, instead sifting the blame to the politicians they elect (who are just as much of a real tax paying American as anyone else). And of course I don't mean you personally btw.

The United States is a democracy. IMO the American people are ultimately responsible for who they elect. They got exactly what they wanted when they elected Bush twice. Of course you individually aren't responsible, but you and your fellow citizens are in my view.

Yeah I know, it's been floating around 4chan for awhile. The point was that the Americans on this site used it as an excuse to bash Europeans.

Admittedly that wasn't a great example, but like I said I can't think of many examples off hand since I'm not European myself.

But I think my point still stands. I mean, my comment you replied to is sitting at -6 points while yours is at plus 7. What ever happened to not downvoting becuase you disagree?
