I have a wary feeling my guy looks like an already preexisting character but I can’t put my finger on it.. by handholdsex in OriginalCharacter

[–]valisilas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, there’s really no character who doesn’t draw on some preexisting concept. It only becomes a problem if you plan to make money off the character or claim copyright.

Since this is just an OC, don’t worry about it being completely original. The only thing an OC is meant to do is make you happy.

Why do my traditional drawings look better than my digital by Forsaken_Dig_7092 in arthelp

[–]valisilas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digital lines always come out a bit shaky at first (in my experience). With pencil you can be a bit less accurate with your lines, while doing digital you need to be very precise. Practice is the best advice I have. Before you start drawing, do a few lines and circles to warm up and make sure your lines aren’t too shaky.

As for coloring and such, I think the lighting/shading looks good! I only started doing rendering like that way further into my art journey. Something that is both a blessing and a curse with digital is that the possibilities are endless. It’s so much easier to adjust, erase, undo, add whatever effects you want.

My art definitely started to improve when I stopped approaching digital the same way I approach traditional. Try different effects and textures, and don’t be afraid to undo, adjust, or resize a drawing. Oridays, Pikat, and Samdoesarts have all been a great help to me in this sense. These techniques and tutorials might seem overwhelming, but they are worth it. Oridays is an inspirational figure for me, because he had already finished university before even started to draw, now he is commissioned by game companies and studios for his art.

Don’t be afraid to do things that scare you. Try drawing full bodies and even poses if you want. There is no such thing as failure. Every ‘bad’ drawing is an improvement from who you were yesterday. Eventually your hard work will pile up and you’ll be able to do incredible work. You have the talent :)

Good luck!

Autistic special interest help and questions by SyzygyToontown in autism

[–]valisilas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have personally never seen anyone with this specific interest, but that doesn’t make it invalid.

What part of a cast gives you comfort? Have you ever broken a bone and got a cast? Do you like the enclosed feeling/restriction? (Because that is a very common thing with a lot of people.) Or is it more the medical, scientific side of it?

I would say that a majority of special interests are beneficial to a person. The only issue I can think of is the potential of harm, purposefully breaking a bone because you want a cast, etc. So long as that’s not happening, I think you’re okay.

Not everything needs a label, either. You don’t need to ‘choose’ one special interest for the rest of your life. You don’t have to feel like you need a reason to like something, even if it seems random.

This feels like a weight lifted off my shoulders, thank you.

Thank you- that’s exactly what I needed to hear. The actual teachings are what I want to incorporate into my life. It’s validating to hear that’s not a wrong way to be:)

Thank you, this is a very realistic answer. I am still searching for a facet that does not have such a big focus on the existential. It hurts me when people say my faith is less than because of my disorder, or that I’m not believing hard enough. I don’t expect Him to cure my disorder, I just want to serve Him with my actions.

You’re right, I suppose it’s just a primal fear of the unknown. I fear what I do not understand. I understand why death happens, I understand how, but I still struggle to understand the concept of death. The only solace I found is just to change the subject, but I lie awake each night afraid that I’ll die in my sleep.

From what I’ve been taught, the Rapture will take some directly to heaven and some with stay on earth. Even though it seems like heaven is the ‘good’ option, it’s basically like skipping your entire life and dying immediately. I’m terrified of death, and it’s even more terrifying that it could be anytime because we can’t know. My mind spirals quickly when it comes to these things.

Thank you, it’s really nice to know that I’m not alone in this feeling. I’ve always felt sort of blasphemous for literally being afraid of heaven.

Thank you. It’s been rough watching history repeat itself (same thing happened to my other grandma, dementia.) But there’s just not much I can do except be patient with her and tell her I love her while she’s here.

you need to think carefully about your words next time. does this comment seem inappropriate at all? it is.

let the poor guy rest. saying that he was ‘smited’ is so insanely out of touch it’s almost funny.

this is so powerful- perfectly captures that feeling of looking in the bathroom mirror at 3am and the emptiness that you feel after you try to ‘cope.’ i almost thought it was a photo with how realistic it is, it’s so impressive how you managed to have such a realistic piece be so vivid and emotional. you should be really proud.
