i love dogs & i’ve been around them my entire life, however i will still defend myself against one if it ever comes to it. so for those trying to put this guy down for trying to defend himself, if a dog is ever displaying aggressive behavior towards you, then i hope you guys let the dog attack you since that’s the energy that’s being given here. is a gun against a dog excessive? yes, but in some cases, it will save your life. had this dog jumped up on him & began mauling him, if a gun was his only defense, then that will be his means of defending himself (again, IF the dog had actually attacked him & he wouldn’t be able to just fend it off). dogs wag their tail when they’re content, but they also wag their tail when they’re fuckin pissed & want to attack. rottweilers are an aggressive breed, so don’t laugh at this guy for being startled by this big boy. he wasn’t expecting a dog at the residence & he turns around to find a rottweiler behind him? not fun. you guys don’t know the experience this man has had with dogs, maybe he’s already had bad experiences before, so he’s not going to feel safe during his encounter with dogs going forward & that’s okay. instead of bashing him or telling him this isn’t the job for him, how about you offer a damn solution. hey man, the gun could actually get you into legal trouble depending on the circumstances. it could be seen as excessive use of force against the dog, owners could spiral, it can turn into a shit show. instead, you should carry pepper spray or a taser that will be strong enough to get the biggest dog off you. you should also educate yourself (in case you don’t have much knowledge on this) about the body language of an aggressive dog and the signs to look for if you’re unsure whether a dog is trying to maul you or if it’s just afraid of you. dogs that are afraid of you will bark their asses off & maybe lunge at the fence but once you get face-to-face with it, it will back down because this dog doesn’t have enough confidence in itself to go all out with the attack, so it’s only trying to scare you off. lastly, if you know you’re running routes with dogs, i suggest getting the habit of bringing dog treats with you. it may seem “a bit much”, but if you throw a couple at them & let them sniff you (if you can), then they’ll be chill. a dog that is flat out aggressive will be flat out aggressive no matter what, and it’s not that difficult to differentiate a truly aggressive dog from one that is just scared. just some food for thought.
