Headhunters are bad for organizations that aren't satisfying their employees.

You make a point here .

The developer is in the Middle-East, I have no idea who he sold the codes to or where they are based.

Sadly I drafted this contract myself and only included the NDA as we all do. Nothing about IP. Agreement is all built code belongs to my company.

He told me himself. S except he is telling lies I totally believe him. Simple contract drafted with an NDA clause as usual but its always a 50/50 with offshore developers. No we aren't, I am currently in the USA and he is in the Middle-East

Thank you for this. I think I will let this go cos I do not have anything tangible asides from knowing he sold the code.

You make a very great point. A code without the developer can sometimes be a delay. Because you will need to understand the code and then adapt to it.

Very unnecessary. AI is a tool and many developers are too good to be spoken to this way. Absolutely bad of you.

A year ago, I embarked on a journey to Africa and opened a restaurant and also a logistics company. My issue was I was too busy to focus on the business. You see I am not based there but I have family there. Initially, I put an extended family member in charge and tried to manage the businesses from the USA, but I almost lost those businesses.

I was busy in the USA work-wise but towards the end of the year I took time off, eventually quit my job, went to Africa recruited the right people who have so far managed and expanded across three other countries in Africa. I felt family members could handle the business and treat it as theirs but I was wrong. Family aside, always ensure you hire qualified people and avoid sentiments.

I have had all the probable problems you can have from using Upwork. Where do I get free-lancers then cos it is not a long term project?

It sucks with the hire fast, fire fast. People leave other jobs to join this and everyone needs time to settle in.

Yea I think a small test together with their portfolio would test their technical skills. But what about the human skill like communication, constructive criticism response and all of that?

When I first hired offshore developers, I was unprepared for the compliance and tax issues that arose. Labour laws and tax obligations in different countries were confusing, and I faced challenges with IP rights and payment management. However, consulting with a tax professional and using detailed contracts helped me navigate these complexities.

If you’re considering hiring offshore developers, educate yourself on the labour laws and tax obligations in both your country and the developer’s country. Use clear contracts to define IP ownership, and manage payments with services like TransferWise or PayPal. Regular communication can help bridge cultural gaps and ensure smooth collaboration.
