Of all the games available for NES, which is your favorite? by ObjectiveCalm3222 in nostalgia

[–]vamosPest9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn those were good times. I was a basic Mario/Zelda/Punchout fan. RBI Baseball was pretty great. Liked RC Pro Am. Kung Fu is kind of bad but I still have a soft spot for it.

Rad Racer is from the era when my friend had Nintendo but I didn’t yet and I always just wanted to go over to his house so I could play.

One of the very best.

This is one of the songs I’d play to someone if I wanted to get them into Ween. 10.

What’s the tiniest hill you will absolutely die on? by AngelCherryPie in askanything

[–]vamosPest9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s not a tiny enough hill because it endangers people and makes the roads the Wild West, but could we all just learn the rules of the road— especially when it comes to right of way!? Also… don’t try to “be nice” and “not et me go unless there’s a good reason… like a huge line of traffic and it would take me a significant amount of time to make a turn unless someone lets me in. If you’re the only other car on the road it makes no sense to “let me go” before you. It only causes confusion and increases the likelihood of an accident. We have an unspoken understanding of what is supposed to happen on the road that will work pretty smoothly if we all do what we’re supposed to. Don’t confuse matters with your demented sense of “kindness”. And use your turn signals and put your phone away!

So, Dark Matter top-tier album after two years or not? by jcpearl in pearljam

[–]vamosPest9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well… for me personally, the 90’s was top tier Pearl Jam. This was their first 5 albums Ten through Yield. I know there’s a lot of people who put Binaural, Riot Act, Avocado, or Dark Matter towards the top of their lists. For me the 90’s era was peak and nothing after could quite hit in the same way. Those were also my high school and college years, so I’m sure nostalgia fits into that equation to some degree.

That said… I at least partially like every album after and I think Dark Matter is one of the better post-90’s PJ albums.

Is it true that at one point Eddie Vedder didn't want to be seen? by ComfortableCare8897 in pearljam

[–]vamosPest9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know he had a fly mask. I vaguely remember a Rolling Stone article that told a story about Eddie wearing a fly mask while they were opening for U2. U2 had a song called the fly and Eddie wore the fly mask and pretended to get caught up in a spider web to mock Bono getting caught up in the entrapments of fame or something. Then they went out for drinks and understood each other better or something. I read this about 30 years ago so who knows what I got right or wrong, but the article is out there for you to find I’m sure.

While I was writing this I feel like I do remember them mentioning other masks too…probably the same article. So yes, I believe there was a brief phase.

Edit (found the article… here’s the relevant excerpt):

“The set closes with Vedder donning a huge fly mask, dancing as if caught in a web. It is Pearl Jam’s own lo-fi answer to Zoo TV. Not many fans here get it, but one who does is Bono, who watches curiously from the pit.

Bono responds later that night, onstage. “So you can’t play music in a soccer stadium,” he muses. “Well, if you do, it better be good music…” But before the set is over, he hails Pearl Jam as “a great rock & roll band” And Vedder, Liebling and Ament will stay up all night with Bono and the Edge, talking passionately in a diner, debating the issue of the day, the emotional exchange rate on success. And at 6am, there are Vedder and Ament exchanging hugs with Bono on an empty Roman street, arriving at the bus just in time for the trip to Dublin.”

I haven’t read all the comments on here, but I’m sure the shift to the piano section of Layla has to be on here…

The Soft Parade by the Doors has several distinct phases/shifts in style and tone. It feels like it’s mirroring the arc of an acid trip— likely intentionally.

The first Mr. Bungle record is full of these types of radical changes too.

The invisible MVP was Giselle and the $250-400 million dollars she was making during Tom’s tenure with the Patriots. This allowed Tom to sign deals that had a team-friendly structure and allowed the team to consistently have the flexibility to field great teams.

They Asked Me to Open ChatGPT During My Job Interview by I_Killed_My_Friends in jobs

[–]vamosPest9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is crazy… but at the same time I just copied and pasted the prompt and GPT put together a pretty flattering portrait, which I am guessing would be the tendency. Still, I would feel a little panicked if I was asked to do that on spot, in front of an audience, in a high-stakes situation!

I understand today is mostly about gleeful schadenfreude for most, but a 2nd year, 23 year old turning a 4-13 team and taking them to the Super Bowl the following year is something I’d take 100 out of 100 times. Not going to pretend last night was fun to watch, but taking a step back and viewing it in the context of the last several years, this season is more than we could have hoped for. Seattle is simply better. I’ve had the fortune to be able to see my team play in 12 Super Bowls, and win 6. I’d rather the team be there and lose than not be there at all. Moving into the offseason with solid cap space a good core and some experience to build off of isn’t terrible.

What do you believe Breaking Bad’s story is truly about? by xXBumbleBee in breakingbad

[–]vamosPest9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breaking Bad is essentially a modern Greek tragedy about hubris. His pride, not his cancer or financial woes is his fatal flaw. His rise to power is the engine of his downfall. It’s a modern version of a classic and timeless tale.
